Hi all,

So basically my 5 year old mare has had a cold/flu for about a month, she's was a bit flat jumping about a month ago but showed no signs of having a cold or flu, she just lacked spark but was still going double clear. About two weeks ago she developed a runny nose and a cough, and ever since its been slowly getting worse, her nose is a little less runny than last week but she's coughing really badly.

She is still out in the field with a light weight rug on to keep her warm and she's having a feed once a day, but do you think i should keep her in for a few days and see if she gets any better?

Also has any one got any advice for me? ie) any supplements to go in her feed etc.

Thanks :D

I'd get the Vet- could be any number of things ranging from e.g Virus, infection, RAO, pollen allergy ETC and only a vet would be able to advise!- i'd get them to look into whats going on and then they can provide the most appropriate treatment i.e antibiotics, clenbuterol or what ever is needed.

Good luck!

Will be calling vet within next few days, she's better in herself in the field but is coughing alot, just wanted to see if anyone else's horse has had it? and whether you all think she'd be better in than out.

I heard it's going around and vets weren't giving out anything as it has to run its course.

Thanks

A coughing horse is usually better out. However, your vet will be the person to advise you on this ongoing problem.

My horse haas been coughing for around 6 weeks although no runny nose. In hiomself he is fine but for the cough. I had him scoped last week as abs did nothing for him. It seems he has developed an allergy of some sort and is on a steroid inhaler. Has been on it for 5 days now and hasn't coughed for 24 hours. Keeping my fingers crossed as haven't ridden for 6 weeks now!! :(
Definitely call your vet out and do it today.
