My little HT kitty is poorly :(

I started her on the thyroid meds again to give it one more go - 1 tablet a day for 4 days. All seemed absolutely fine then on the evening of day 4 she had her tea and then a little later she started the lip licking signs she was going to be sick. She threw up what looked like a hairball and then went outside to eat grass. She then came back in a threw up again about 10 minutes later. She threw up a few more times - just saliva.

Later that night I was woken by her being sick again - just a bit of saliva. I got up and checked her and she was otherwise OK so I waited until morning she was still being sick and took her to the vet as early as I could get an appointment. The vet couldn't find anything particularly wrong, no temp, no lumps or swelling, heart OK etc. So he gave her an injection anti-emetic (Cerenia) and Duphacort - some sort of corticosteroid anti-inflammatory. She then felt better a couple of hours later and ate and drank then sat on my lap the rest of the evening.

This morning she was ill again - not sick but lip-licking and yowling like she wanted to be sick but couldn't. I took her to vet again and saw the other vet from the practice. Again could find nothing. Didn't recommend bloods at this stage. Gave her injection of Ranitidine and liquid anti-biotic Metronidazole. She is still not eating or drinking and she is sitting in the middle of the room face-planted as she is so tired but won't lie down properly. :(

Not sure what to do next - I just worry as cats seem to go downhill really quickly and she doesn't seem any better :( I also had her sister at the vets again at the weekend as she had another bout of cystitis and she is also going a bit funny - not sure if something else going on there aswell as seems to be "seeing things". She has another appointment tomorrow to follow that up so that will 4 visit to vets in 5 days!

poor Kitty

What I would so if it were mine is demand vets either look down her throat or take in for investigation.

Could be hair balls
stuck bone if she has been outside
other foreign object like a needle piece of wood
anything like that which could be potential life threatening.

keep her on something light on her stomach like chicken and puree if if ness. Keep us up to date.

She will get worst if she cannot keep anything down.

She is not eating or drinking at all at the moment - I syringed a little water in her mouth and plonked her in front of her water bowl but she wouldn't drink.

I'll get them to check her mouth tomorrow if there is no improvement -and take it further if necessary. This morning she was salivating but she isn't at the moment. But she ate and drank last night OK after the first bout of sickness and meds so not sure if there will be anything stuck but worth a try - thanks.

Hard to know over the Internet, but by the sounds of things, she's not happy. I'd want this one seen by the vet ASAP. I know that means an emergency consult and all the added cost, but the morning may be too late.
Good luck.

the reason I say that is because my late girl ( :() was a bit ofish and when I took her to the vet she had a needle down the back of the throat, when he opened her head back you could see the eye of it just. After that I kept all needles and cotton safely away

I would run bloods to check kidney function. IF that's normal I'd change the HT drug or take her off it. This one is obviously not areeing with her

Well she started to feel better in the night and tried to eat something then was sick again (woke me up). I took all food away that was out for my other cat. In the morning she seemed a bit perkier so I cooked her a bit of chicken and she ate a couple of mouthfuls but then went and hid looking sick again. I took her to the vet and they did bloods, red, white and platelets were fine, she shows no signs of kidney or liver problems and they have sent a sample to the lab for thyroid to see if that has changed.

She has been given another anti-sickness injection and has eaten this afternoon. I just hope when it wears off she is not sick again. I will definitely not be giving her the Felimazole again. Once the final blood test is back my vet is going to refer her to a specialist up in Surrey to see what other options there are for her thyroid. My other cat which had a couple of bouts of cystitis was also examined and had urine tests but did not show anything too adverse just gave me a longer course of antibiotics - total bill today £258 to add the other 3 bills this week adding up to over £400 !!

Just a little update - the results of the thyroid test came in showing she has gone from Hyper to Hypo thyroid! The vet is perplexed and has been onto the drug company and they have no idea how she could go from one to the other so quickly. After starting and stopping 3 times she only has a total of 19 2.5mg tabs over 2 months.

She is now back to relative normal - perky and eating so for the moment really happy :)
