Im a bit worried about an injury my yearling has. He appears to have impaled his leg on something in the field when he came in last wednesday. The cut is on the outside of his front leg near the top its quite small (1cm approx) but goes up inside his leg towards the elbow approx 3 inches. Vet came and gave antibiotics ect and gave it a really good clean up inside as it was discharging a pink sticky substance. It been really swollen but suprisingly hes not lame on it. He will finish his course of medication tomorrow and im a little worried as its still hard and swollen, the cut looks as though its healing but still has a small amount of discharge if i apply pressure when cleaning.
Do you think this swelling may go right on its own or do you recommend I get the Vet back to take another look??

The swelling should go down with turnout, clean with cooled boiled salt water - brilliant for healing. Cuts often feel hard it will soften when scab goes.
