My poor pony is not feeling too great :( took his rug off yesterday to enjoy the sun on his back and noticed he was a bit tucked up with a messy back end (as the fields a muddy mess just assumed he'd been lying in it). Then this morning he turned his nose up at his feed/hay and his tail was caked in loose poo. Vet came out, temp was a tiny bit up but everything seemed fine so she took bloods and a faecal sample, prescribed antibiotics and bute and gave him a bute shot.
Tonight he was led down in the field and when he got up there was a puddle of poop coloured water under him , went in to make a stable up so he could lie out of the mud and when we went to get him in he pooed blood, cue another vet visit and a shot of buscopan.
Should get the bloods back tomorrow but has anyone else experienced this? Hoping it's just a tummy bug of some sort but worried about my poorly little man :(

I think you're already doing all that you can do for him. Keep him as warm and as comfortable as you can. Hope vet gets to the cause of the problem and he makes a speedy recovery.

Just been up for a check, more bloody diahorrea but on vets advice offered him a couple of handfuls of chaff and he did eat it so that's
a slight improvement , went and laid down again as soon as he'd finished though

Im so sorry I have no helpful advice and dont want to google as that just scaremongers.

I hope he is okay soon and the blood tests come back with something so you can get to the bottom of it xx

What type of pony? Age, management, etc.
It sounds very worrying...keep us posted x

He's a 20 year old dartmoor, always been healthy, field kept, changed fields a week and half ago but never normally causes problems and new field wasn't full of grass. Vaccinated and wormed in November. He gets a couple of handfuls of mollichaf and pony nuts for his joint supplement plus hay .He's eating now albeit not with much gusto and picking at his hay, he's still lying down a lot but took him for a wander down the lane and he seemed perkier and enjoyed the verges :) no blood results yet

I hope he hasnt eaten some wire from these chinese lanterns in his hay or picked it up in the field, he does sound very poorly and I would be very worried, but do hope he improves and gets well, fingers crossed

I've never seen any so hope not, the hay gets fluffed up so hopefully id feel it.
Blood results came back as normal apart from low sodium due to the diahorrea and one of the liver enzymes was slightly raised but she said that could just be his age. So now we wait for the feacal results which can take a week and start him on electrolytes

Hows your pony tonight ?' If still got bloody poos and lying down a lot I would be inclined to do further investigationd and also if notveating well ' hope hebis brighter x

Just got back from checking him, his temp is down and no sign of any blood on thermometer so hopefully that's settled. No sign of poop , loose or otherwise , in the stable ( he's windy though so hopefully it's moving through). He's had a good drink and when We called vet (as requested) for an update she says he sounds like he's slowly on the mend. Doesn't help that he doesn't like being stabled and he perks up a lot when we take him for wanders down the lane :)

I don't want to get my hopes up too much as he's brightened up before then gone downhill again but can't stop smiling at the moment :) he seems much brighter and his cheeky side is coming out again. Was trying to eat the syringe when I had it in my pocket after injecting him and he ate all his breakfast

Fingers crossed he is over the worse - it may just be a case of never knowing what has caused it , but the main thing is he sounds like he is on the mend x

Good news!

Phoned the vet earlier to update and she says it's great he's feeling better but anytime in the next 48 hours he could deteriorate so just keeping our fingers crossed, he's on electrolytes now and she's put us out some milk thistle powder (or tablets ,haven't seen them yet) and something else I can't remember
We've had poop now but it's mucousy/watery still :(
