poor little Badger seems to have the sniffles.

I took him for a hack yesterday and he coughed a bit when setting off, although that isn't unusual as he does sometimes just because his stable can get dusty. I had a canter and he coughed again when we stopped and was very sensible for him so I walked him back home. He then had a snotty nose. So I'm thinking he's not feeling the best.

A mare at our yard was under the weather a couple of weeks ago and I'm thinking it's the same thing. She had the vet and she was prescribed anti-biotics, and we still have some left... would you (bearing in mind I'd rather him get better sooner rather than later)..

a - not call the vet for be and see how he gets on
b - not call the vet and give him anti-biotics
c - call the vet

Thanks. xx

personally i would call the vets. its more than likely its the same things but it might be dangerous to give him the anti biotics if not advise to by a vet just my opinion

I'd give his stable a good clean down, soak his hay, perhaps change his bedding and see if that helps (if you can't change his bedding a sprinklng of Jeyes helps to settle any dust). If it does you'll notice an almost immediate improvement.

I would call out the vet just to be on the safe side....Badger is special to you and you ride him lots so I would def give the vet a bell...if not to just ask if there is anything going around at the moment...

While your horse has acough only feed him fully soaked hay. The hay should be soaked for at least 30 minutes in a large container of fresh water. This is important while he has a cough so as to prevent him from becoming allergic to hay in the future.

He's on hayledge which is pretty wet stuff, but should he be on soaked hay anyway??

He's not coughing much at all at the mo, not while he's in just while he's been exercising, but he is very quite and he's been in a lot this week so he should be full of it.... plus the snotty nose.

There is something going around and a mare on our yard had it so I'm pretty sure it's that, and pretty sure the vet would give him the same for it. But to be safe I should get the vet I guess..
