Nearly said Intro!!

Been very nervous all week and have been trying to drum into myself that it is all for fun and i should not worry about the outcome - easier said than done!

Got up at 5am this morning and got plaited- D was obviously not amused and was trying to bite my leg and push me off the stool.

Went down to the dressage warm up - he felt ok...i just have to have a fairly firm contact atm especially to start with then give when he gives. He actually warmed up better than expected and practised a few transitions etc. Decided to do the test in my jumping saddle today as just felt i could get my leg on more and have not really ridden in my dressage saddle much!

Went in and did quite a nice test.. stayed in the arena anyway!! Got both canter transtions well although a bit abrupt...and the ones down could have been better.
Came out feeling quite happy with that.

Show jumping warm up- decided to go in my full cheek snaffle as thats what he has been show jumping in all winter. He was being so strong in the warm up and was not listening even after transitions and circling him a lot. Decided to put in Madhector's (thankyou!!!) Neue Shule universal ...still was not great but took him in. Jumped no 1 & 2 fine, was putting his neck down coming into no.3 which was actually the smallest fence and took that down.
Turned to no.4 where he was eyeing up the Novice fence in front of him and we really didn't get a very good stride as he was pulling into it on such a long canter and had that down as well. Jumped the rest clear.

I am going to try the same over the next two weeks but with the curb strap actually coming in to effect as it was far too loose today!

Bit disapointed as he has been jumping double clears BN but its different on grass!Hopefully once i have got more play with the length of his stride it will help as well!

Was a bit

about going xc - not sure what to do. Decided to go back to my snaffle as i didn't want him to start fighting the other bit half way round. Warmed up just tried to sj everything and he was ok.

Set off nice and steady (looked like i was going for a hack

) i realised he would be okay and then kicked on. He was super confident and jumped everything nicely and just "locked" on and knew exactly what he was doing...went clear

I actually ended up with 8.8 penalties which is fair enough as i started so steady!

Found out i had got 34 in the dressage

which is the best BE mark to date and iirc the best we have probably had anywhere. Very very pleased especially as flatwork practise has been so limited.

So ended on 50.2 which is not a placing but all in all a good day. Just need to play around with the sj. Its hard as i don't want him to start fighting a stronger bit but then i want control as well!!

Saw Madhector and Blaze - looked lovely...shall let her say how she got on later.

There was a fall there today in the BE90 SJ- Madhector saw it...sounded like another bad horse fall...not sure on the full situation but i hope that the rider is ok.

Thanks for reading!

As soon as i got on today he was okay so i think i caught him on a good day!!

Great first event. Well done. So glad it went smoothly for you, after all your self doubt... just shows what a great job you can do.
Dressage... sounds fab, and SJ... well just a little tweak... then XC... push on a bit when you feel able... and a decent placing is coming your way.
Pleased for you.
And love the way D picks up his toes.....cute.

Thank you

XC time wise not worried really. Its a very hilly course anyway so you are soon slowed down and taking the first few very steady (testing brakes) would have easily made me go over the time so next time hopefully we should be fine

Show jumping - he has all the jump but he just needs to remember i would like some say in what we do

Nice, safe first outing, well done, looked like you were really enjoying yourselves!
Great place to start the season from, when you know what to improve on and in what direction to go on now!

I'm SO glad you went and did it, well done!
laugh.gif

I'm also glad he gave you a good xc round as hopefully this will boost your confidence about the next one. You did the absolute right thing and made him start the xc under your terms and only when you were happy did you ask him to move on, well done.

Sadly,not!
Seriously underestimated english traffic and got 'stuck'!
Had a fun afternoon with Talavera though at her lesson with Lionel. And Laura's mum makes a mean bacon and egg sandwich!!!! Lurvely!!!

Just got to get the sj a bit better now!

What a great first outing! Well done

What about a happy mouth pelham for the SJing? You could make it quite soft with a leather or elastic curb but I think they are great bits for giving you a little more control without being harsh

Say intro if you want - IMO BE90 is a silly name, thankfully still called intro over here.

Well done

I think you worry too much.

He looks lovely in the dressidge pics - not surprised you got such a good score.
HOW much room does he give those jumps?! So cute! Really good result, well done - just a bit of a sort out SJ (no prob really if you're jumping DCs BN) and put your foot down a bit XC and you're there.
Great start to the season, congrats
