Hello, Thankyou for the post Nicola although you've already submitted one of my questionnaires to me in class therefore making your post rather irrelelvent ;) i hope you get some replies soon :D I only have four

Ahh something to do on my day off :D ....

How is your horse kept, for example stabled or turned out?
Summer: Stabled in the day out at night (would be 24/7 if ouor grazing wasn't so rubbish!!)
Winter: Out in the day in at night

What time in the day do you turn them out?
As early as poss in the winter around 7/8 am before work and brought back in at around 4/5. In the summer I'll bring him in around 9 and put him back out at around 4/5.

Do your horses get any exercised, for example been ridden or walked out?
Ridden at least 3 times a week in the school, hacked out once & lunged once or twice in the morning.

If your horse is been kept in its stable for whatever reason, how would you make sure that he/she gets exercised?
If he's ever on box rest i'll walk him to his field for a munch and back :)

Do you leave them out over night?
Have done when the grass is long enough.

Is there a reason why you don’t turn them out?
N/A

Are you aware of the following stable vices?

Does your Horse have of the following stable vices?
Please write Yes or No

Wind Sucking - NO
Wall Kicking - NO

If your horse had any stable vices would you deal with it?
If it was affecting his health.

You your horse seemed stressed would you do anything to help it?
Try to get to the root of the problem first. Is it from being stabled on his own? Turned out on his own etc ... is it due to his health? If so call the vet.

Have you ever considered any other forms of training methods, if so which types?
Would like to try a bit of natural horsemanship one day :)

Questionnaire
How is your horse kept, for example stabled or turned out?
My horses are turned out 24/7.

What time in the day do you turn them out?
See above.

Do your horses get any exercise, for example been ridden or walked out?
1. Mainly hacked, sometimes schooled and sometimes jumps some small SJ's.
2. Unbacked youngster, walked out in-hand and is just learning to lunge.
3. Retired, ex-racehorse.

If your horse is been kept in its stable for whatever reason, how would you make sure that he/she gets exercised?
I only stable if it is required for an injury/illness. It depends on the injury/illness whether the horse needs total box rest or can be grazed in-hand/taken for a walk. When my mare had her abscess she was stabled at night and turned out in the sand school during the day.

Do you leave them out over night?
Yes.

Is there a reason why you don’t turn them out?
Only if they're injured/need to be stabled for health reasons.

Are you aware of the following stable vices?
Please write Yes or No

Box Walking
Crib Biting
Weaving
Wind Sucking
Wall Kicking (door kicking)

Yes, I've heard of them all.

Does your Horse have of the following stable vices?
Please write Yes or No

Horse1
Box Walking Yes if stabled on her own.
Crib Biting No
Weaving No
Wind Sucking No
Wall Kicking (door kicking) No

Horse 2
Box Walking No
Crib Biting No
Weaving No, but has a weaving grill because she has looked like she might jump out of her stable, if stabled alone.
Wind Sucking NO
Wall Kicking (door kicking) Yes, but only if she sees someone walk by. (For attention)

Horse3
Box Walking No
Crib Biting Yes, but not very often.
Weaving No
Wind Sucking No
Wall Kicking No
However she does shake, poo alot and get anxious when you bring her into the yard (has improved alot though) even if it's with the other horses and just for a hoof trim.

If your horse had any stable vices would you deal with it?
The crib biter doesn't have ulcers, so I've put electric tape along the top rails of the fences (there's a couple of posts that she can crib on) and I leave her to it. She is turned out all the time anyway so it's more of a 'field vice'

Your horse seemed stressed would you do anything to help it?
Yes, I find that they are calmer if they have company. The retired TB has learnt that she will be turned out again, once the farrier has been and so stresses less. The only problem is my riding horse who is naturally 'stressy' and I find that she is helped by calm and kind handling.

Have you ever considered any other forms of training methods, if so which types?
I have found that being calm, consistant, kind and with quick corrections/praise works best with my horses (common sense really).

How is your horse kept, for example stabled or turned out?

Stabled overnight all year round.

What time in the day do you turn them out?

Out between 7-8am in between 2-3pm (4-5pm at weekends)

Do your horses get any exercised, for example been ridden or walked out?
Over winter no - personal choice. Once fit 4-6 times a week ridden or lunged.

If your horse is been kept in its stable for whatever reason, how would you make sure that he/she gets exercised?
Ridden in the menage or lunged, I have access to the walker but not a great fan of them.

Do you leave them out over night?
No

Is there a reason why you don’t turn them out?
She's an extremely good do-er and on too much grass gets loose droppings.

Wall Kicking No

If your horse had any stable vices would you deal with it?
Depends, if horse was losing condition, not in good health then yes.

You your horse seemed stressed would you do anything to help it?
Yes, I would try to assess why and if not health issues or environmental issues would try and change whatever situation seemed to be causing it. For example, when my own horse was on box rest, tried to make her day more interesting by feeding little and often with the use of treat balls. Hay in double nets so she had to work to get it (and made it last longer) etc etc

Have you ever considered any other forms of training methods, if so which types?

Some of the natural horsemanship - ie that which doesn't include carrot sticks - mostly its down to common sense and consistancy. Lessons from a good instructor and taking advice from those you trust and can see their horses are well balanced individuals !

I try to be firm, fair and consistent - and offer lots of praise when either of the boys get it right - they very rarely have to be told no, so they must have a fair understanding of what is expected!

How is your horse kept, for example stabled or turned out?
Out 24/7 in summer, in at night through winter

What time in the day do you turn them out?
7am

Do your horses get any exercised, for example been ridden or walked out?
Ex racer is ridden 5/6 times per week
Old pony (semi-retired) goes for the odd walk in hand and gets ridden occasionally.

If your horse is been kept in its stable for whatever reason, how would you make sure that he/she gets exercised?
This is happening at the minute as they are in on a 5 day worming programme. Exracer is ridden every evening and retired pony is taken for a walk in hand, and they go out in the school together for a leg stretch/roll in the morning.

Do you leave them out over night?
Yes through the summer

Questionnaire
How is your horse kept, for example stabled or turned out?

Stabled overnight and turned out during the day, in during the day and out at night during very hot weather/flies

What time in the day do you turn them out?
7am six days a week, 8.30am on a Sunday

Do your horses get any exercised, for example been ridden or walked out?

Yes, probably ridden between 3 and 6 days a week

If your horse is been kept in its stable for whatever reason, how would you make sure that he/she gets exercised?
It depends, he is only likely to be stabled for long periods of time for medical reasons in which case I would follow my vets advise. During winter the hunt meets locally twice during the season and we stable the horses on both those days which are usually saturday's which is his day off.

Do you leave them out over night?
Yes, when the weather is hot he will be out overnight although me and another livery are thinking about having them out 24/7 in the near future so will discuss this with the YO
