Morning all, just looking for suggestions for mount blocks for those of you who have a car and trailer? I don’t like mounting from the ground and like to put all my ramps up on the trailer before I head off anywhere so can't use the ramp to hop on board.

Has anyone got any suggestions for sturdy mount blocks I can take with me and pop in the boot of my car – I don’t particularly like using a bucket (not sturdy enough – nor high enough to get on board my lump of a horse!)

My dad has made a little box for me that is about 12" tall and fits onto my little black plastic step ladders with a couple of little clips.

When I first did my disc in my back I found I couldn't raise my foot to put in the stirrup iron with the mounting block the height it was as the pain was too much. I carry both the stepladder that folds up and the box loose in my box on the other side of the horse and when I get to shows I mount and unmount from it. My horse is extremely good at moving across laterally to the mounting block for me to unmount and will often straddle it to give me a fairer advantage. (He is very laid back). Its just given me the extra help I needed. I will try to send you a photo.

Trouble is as I always compete on my own I have to leave it outside the box and then I am worried it will get knicked.

I use a two-step step ladder. Works a treat and folds to transport (I keep it in the pocket of the front ramp so it is always in the trailer and you can't forget it). I painted our name and postcode on it, plenty of people borrow it but it has always been there when we get back so far.

I have the ones hippocobamus has ordered!!! Never mount my big lad (16.3) without them they go everywhere and fold up nicely too if ur tight for space, we have a lorry so arent but do tuck them away in a corner!! Very sturdy think we have had them for 6-7 years now! Highly recommend!!

I bought a little aluminium 3 step ladder from Aldi, it is dead light and folds up small so perfect for the lorry.

I have to confess though when we box up for hacks I take a plastic garden chair for mounting as I can't get the steps back in the lorry after we have mounted and I don't want them to get nicked!

I take a four step stepladder when I go about, it folds completely flat and is secured to the side of the truck or trailer with Bungee cords.

I have really stupid knees so can't lift myself up so need the height where I can just step over my horse.

I use a half size barrel. It is sturdy, cheap to buy (used to contain bulk curry paste), is also a seat, is also storage for boots etc, is also a water carrier (the lid has a seal, food grade seal), is harmless if horse knocks it over, is lightweight, is taller than most mounting devices as my hip is bad and I can't lift my leg up far.

I use these. Very good, fold up and certainly seen a lot of other people using similar at shows

Another vote for the Bekvam steps from Ikea.... only £11.00 and very easy to carry around.

(and yes, my husband uses it as a seat when he's waiting for me!)

I use the Bekvam too :) Last year, I brought them along to an intro endurance ride we were doing (horse is 17hh and I can never be sure there will be something big enough to clamber on). Used the steps to mount, cantered off and did the ride. On my return, I found the timekeeper sitting on them :D She was a bit embarrassed, but I reassured her that they were usually only required once per ride!
