hi,
i'm trying to help someone out and i thought i would ask on here for any other horsey peoples experiences

A friend is after some tempory stabling at their farm. Now, when i was a child, i was stabled at a livery yard that had some stables which were converted railway buildings, i cant remember what exactly they were called! Anyway, i know you can now buy metal shipping container stables (not sure i would want to be in one of those but they do make them!). Does anyone have the site office/portacabin type buildings converted into stables? The ones when i was a child were pretty much like portacabins converted. The yard closed down and a housing development was built on the land so i cant take her to have another look at them
Any feedback???
I think her plan is to convert a portacabin type building, put up a partition inside, have a concrete floor (well, thats already there

) make stable doorways, put kick boards up etc.
hope that makes sense?

Can you not just get temporary actual stables that are movable? Or is this more a cost issue?

I knwo old railway carriages have been used in the past but I would guess the only way you could get hold of these is to either contact your local station or go to a breakers/wreckers type yard.

We have a metal container we used for storage - think we got it through out farmer's contacts. Not sure it'd be suitable for a stable though - only for a smallish horse/pony as they are relatively narrow alothough fairly long.

I think they are thinking of cost, their budget IMO is tiny! i know they have placed wanted adverts but had no joy.
The stables when i were a child were not old carriages, they were some kind of building that i think was used i think every so often alongside the tracks, i guess to keep equipment in etc. I wish i could remember the exact name for them! i tried to explain to my friends dad and didnt make a good job of it

I know ages ago when i saw the metal container stables in did cringe - and TBH, i dont ever see the point of just pony stables as i myself personally would always have horse sized stables so they are more versitile, but thats just my theory anyway.
I'll let them know that there are some others who have converted portacabins and also suggest the hiring some ideal also.
