Would these knee boots be any good at all for hacking as well as jumping? I do realise they say they are idea for hunting/jumping but they don't actually say no use for hacking. I can't decide if the boot would just stay rigid, away from the knee, and offer no protection if she were to fall to her knees on a road for instance. Isn't that the whole point of a bottom strap on standard boots? (I'm pretty sure I just answered my own question there! LOL)

I always worry when cantering on some open land during a hack. I worry about the bottom strap feeling tight on P's legs as she moves them in faster paces. Probably worrying about nothing though.

I wanted to take her hunting, but as she can sometimes trip, I can't bring myself to hunt her without knee boots as there could be a considerable amount of road work at some meets.

I can see no reason why they would not be ideal for hacking

Thanks Louise.

I wasn't sure if the bottom strap on normal boots stopped the boot from "flapping up" (hard to describe) if they fell down.....therefore meaning these might only protect frontal strike (again not well described) due to fences, hedges, walls etc.

Am I even making sense? LOL

I don't think they would flap up- looks like they are the same material the old porter boots (the ones you used to bandage on) were made of which is quite a ridgid foam. Not sure how they would protect the knee in an actual fall though because surely the foam would stay straight (ie vertical to the floor?!)

I've bought two sets of the Westropp combined knee/brushing boot. The standard set, like those on the link, and the more expensive "dynamic" ones. Neither fit her properly. Cob won't go around her legs and full size is too long in the cannon bone for her and rubbed her fetlock and sat up too high behind her knee.

I also found the standard ones turned on her, I did try using them a few times even though they were long, as she walked. No matter how tight I did them up, I would always have one turned to the inside of her leg when I returned, offering no knee protection at all.

The ones I use at the moment are the simple Westropp Knee Boots. Had them four years and love them....just not sure about them if I take her hunting.

Yup...this is exactly what I was thinking. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought that! The bottom strap is there to hold the boot to the knee/cannon bone to make sure it wraps around the knee cap in a fall isn't it?
