Portman...hmmm well it was one of those days where all I can remember are the bad bits!!!

Had a nice leisurely start leaving the yard at 11am so I plaited in the morning and did her stud holes...only to find that one of the stud holes was knackered.

Off we went in the hope we'd get there with enough time to find farrier to see if he could fix it! Portman is a total nightmare to get to from me, whichever way we went it was rubbish roads and lots of hills!

We got lost on the way and ended up down an unclassified road trying to get up a single track 1 in 6 hill

Little lorry managed it in first gear with a lot of coaxing from me!

Anyway, we got there, only 10 minutes late! No time to find the farrier so went off to do dressage with 3 studs. Was very pleased with her test, she was very chilled and just had one mistake coming out of the medium canter where we had a bit of a wobble. Scored 8's for her shoulder ins which I was really pleased with. Scored 35.9 a very respectable score for her second intermediate test.

Put H back on lorry and off we went to walk the cross country course. I have to say it wasn't the most inspiring event I've been to and the cross country went across 2 fields with mostly straightforward fences. Managed to get the farrier to fix the stud hole by this time so it was onto the showjumping. Decided to jump her in hind boots yesterday which I never normally do and she was having such a strop about it - bucking and kicking out and constantly changing behind. In hindsight I should have taken them off before I went in. Went in and had the most monumental miss at the first fence and very good pony bailed me out and jumped it, but we had it down - unsurprisingly!

Got myself together and didn't miss again thankfully, but we had another 2 down. Was very cross with her because she has so much jump and was jumping 1.30m at the weekend but she just gets a bit lazy and lands on back rails

I was so cross with myself for making such a hash of the first and cross with her for not trying, after she jumped so well at Gatcombe I really thought we were getting there with her.

As we were completely out of the running I went for a canter round the cross country, but she had other ideas and got a bit of a motor on for the first half despite me trying to slow down! Popped round with no issues there were a couple of questions - coffin with a skinny out which really was quite skinny and with no xmas trees to help and a road crossing which was house to step up off road and right handed on 2 strides to a house. Water was also decent enough with a rolltop just in front of the edge of the water. Got 3.2 time penalties but had been hoping to get about 10 time penalties but she wanted to get a speed on! Overall some really good bits - dressage and cross country feeling so easy and showjumping very bad! Set off on the journey home and got lost again, luckily not down any treacherous roads that time! Took forever to get home as got stuck behind a tank being moved so did 20 miles sat behind that at 25mph! Got home at about 9.30pm last night!

Sorry its a really long report, was one of those days that really wasn't that bad but just felt so disappointing - even the cross country which normally makes me
grin.gif
didn't manage to cheer me up even though she was her normal fab self! Oh well, that's eventing I guess! Onto the next event!

lol I like how you say the XC was mostly str8forward then mention abuot 3 of the difficult fences
wink.gif
haha

Don't be too hard on yourself
smile.gif

Well it was straightforward I though with the exception on those fences! But to be fair they weren't difficult really were they, just questions!! I knew what I meant! haha!

Exactly thats eventing!!! The dressage mark is fantastic for her 2nd I, well any I really!! And she was a star as usual xc!!

You know she's got loads of jump and will easily Int sj...it was just one of those days. If no1 was your fault then 2 off really isnt that careless....Also where would be the fun if all 3 bits went right everytime

It is always so easy to concentrate on the bad bits, and miss all the good bits! I did that at my first event last weekend with 6 yr old, he was fab in so many ways, but all i could concentrate on at the time were our 'blips'!

Sounds like a fab day to me, and a fabby XC round!

I know what you mean those days where you just feel a bit glum about the whole performance desite it being good. Don't worry that's just horses for you, next event you will have your mojo back!
smile.gif

Well done sounds like a fab d and xc

It sounds like you're disappointed because you've moved the showjumping goalposts, that's all. That was a very good dressage score, she did the cross country easily but because she showjumped clear last time out you hoped she would this time. I'm thinking that her showjumping is still a work in progress, so it takes more strength of character for you to cope with three down when you've recently had a clear round, than if you've never had a clear. Sorry it's long-winded, but I know how you feel: HH had 5 down
shocked.gif
at the Breeding Champs (he hated the double bridle and made sure I knew that
mad.gif
), but I made myself go xc knowing it would cheer me up no end (which it did, particularly the bit where I got a round of applause for going the straight way out of the water
tongue.gif
).

Hang in there and she'll come good for you. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that....

You've hit the nail on the head, I just need to be patient! She's cool, but she's not the best showjumper so I'll have to live with days where I have 3 down, and normally I can cope with it, but had just hoped I'd have a good run yesterday and had such a good preparation that it was quite disappointing. I'm starting to remember the good bits now though so thats a good thing!!!
grin.gif

All sounds pretty good to me!!
Also sounds like you're more than ready for your first Int. and as Sarah-Jane says, you're both just waiting for it all to come together somewhere more important!!!
