My lovely brother wanted to come and take some pictures of Lil when he was visiting over the weekend as he likes playing with his camera.

I was very happy to oblige but horrifed to notice that I'm collapsing through my left hip in most of the pictures. I expect this is a big part of the reason why our right catner is so bad if I'm not sitting straight. Apart from "Sit up straight" has anyone got any tips on how to correct this? Exercises etc?

Malteasers to all helpful suggestions :D

Will put the other pics in PG:D

strange question but when you lie down is one leg slightly or noticeably shorter than the other? I reguallarly (no idea how!) put my pelvis out of place. A good chiropracter or mctimony person can do wonders! I often notice when one stirrup is shorter, or one knee hurts more or i walk with my foot turned out. This is just one possibility why you might be doing that.

Otherwise I guess it's a case of exaggerating collapsing the other hip until your body learns to sit straight?

Thanks. I've been having mctimoney chiro recently as I put my pelvis out after a nasty fall. I'm nearly at the end of my treatment though, its supposed to be all level now and certainly doesn't hurt like it did???

hmm don't know then i'm afraid! I would think it all stems from your injury though. I would take the pics to your next session if I was you.

second pic you look on axis with the horse and look level, first pic left shoulder is higher than right and its as though subconciously you are trying to level yourself as normally on hip collapse you have that shoulder lower. .
also you look like more weight is in your right seatbone so get yourself more central on saddle, concentrate where your seatbones are (do you feel them? - if not when standing still get someone to hold ponies head take feet out of stirrups and put over front of saddle flaps - should feel both seatbones now on saddle - get central and put each leg back down whilst keeping the feel of your seatbones)

dont think sit up tall - makes you hollow backed - think about having a corset on perhaps so middle stays solid (well not solid but doesnt collapse)

also dont put more weight into left stirrup or raise it as will lift left seatbone and put more weight into right and make hip collapse! think evenly down each leg - dont put hardly any weight into your feet - just enough not to lose stirrup

try those if not will think of some more.

whereabouts are you - i have a ride with your mind trainer (biomechanics) ..can you tell!! - she very good and concentrates on your position and how it affects horses way of going - look up mary wanless - see where local trainer is- or just have a look at her books

Thanks Kezimac. Thats a really good idea. I'm just over the Staffs border into Derbyshire so probably not that far from you. Will look into it.
