Last weekend I let my two cobs into a field we had been resting for approx 4 weeks. When we went to fed them etc I noticed that Banjo had problems breathing so we shut the field off again and stayed with him for a couple of hourse, he did not get any worse, his nostrils were inflammed and made a whizzy noise. We left him and Dolly shut in the two normal paddocks they are in and decided to go back later and check.

When we went back he was no better nor no worse, he looked sorry for himself and was hot and his stomach was not moving normally when we breathed. So I called the vet out, she checked him over, took his temperature etc and said it was upper respiratory, either he could have been stung or there is something in the field he has an allergy against. She give him a steroid injection and gave my some ventipulmin and some steroid tablets, she told me to give him the ventipulmin for a couple of days and only give him the steroid tablets if he was no better the next day. She told me to keep the field shut off, but try him again in there if he better in a few days.

Next morning he was fine, so after the couple of days stopped him the ventipulmin, as he was back to normal. So as he was fine today I let him in the rested field for three hours, when I went to fed him, his nostrils were inflammed again and his breathing a bit whizzy, but not as bad as the last time. So shut the field off again, started the ventipulmin again.

I'm going to check on him in an hour, and call the vet again tomorrow to explain what has happened, that is if I dont have to call them tonight.

Any advise on what it could be and how to try to stop it happening again, it appears to be something in that field, as OK in other paddocks, but he has been in the paddock before but not when its hot and dry.

Thanks
