Possible Bone spavin

Hi! Just wanting a little input, as my daughters pony has a half egg shaped bony lump on the inside of his hock, at the bottom of the joint. I know this is fairly typical of bone spavin, but he hasn’t shown any lameness or stiffness on this leg (occasional front limb lameness but I put this down to his toes getting too long, which has now been addressed and seems much improved). He went xc schooling on Sunday and was great, best ever, in fact, but we noticed the lump soon after. Any ideas? Very many thanks in advance ?

Is the lump hot? Painful to touch?

If the pony is going well, with no stiffness, then I wouldn't worry too much.

My first pony had bone spavin, had it 1 1/2 years after purchase, but when I looked at the photos when I tried him, the lump was there too.

With him being stiff, he had a couple of years off, but then came completely sound, which he stayed for another 10 years.

Is it possible it has been there all along?

Thank you! That’s encouraging to hear. The lump isn’t hot or sore, so very possible it’s been there all along (embarrassingly ?) now I’ve seen it it is very obvious though!
