This is not an evangelical anti-bit thread, nor is it implying criticism of anyone who rides or does not ride their horse, or who shoes, or doesn't, or uses a bit or doesn't, or who is NH or isn't... I hope I've covered all the bases there.

IF you ride bitless and IF you are a bit concerned about being properly covered under your insurance policy, you can get public liability insurance that specifically states it will cover you here:

I've been covered under NFU, but the cost of their insurance now has cause me to revise my arrangements.

I'm really not keen on the name of the organisation, and it costs a little bit more than BHS Gold (who may or may not cover you, people argue about that one), but it's an option so I thought it might be of interest to some here.

SEIB now say that you are covered for bitless riding so long as it is what your horse is used to. I think they responded to the threat of these guys pretty promptly!

Ooh, thanks for that. I ride one of mine bitless, didnt even think he wouldn't be covered. That will teach me to read my policy properly. Does anyone know if Petplan excludes bitless riding? Thanks

when i had my i.d i rode her in bitless and phoned petplan twice to make sure we were covered and apparently as long as the horse is under control you are insured:)
