Obviously will be getting a vet out, but wondered what others thought. My recently acquired yearling is the right type to get it (very big IDxWB); she has gone from poor grazing, no feed and lean to better grazing here with some fibre feed and pink powder. I noticed a swelling oin the front, inner hock one side a couple of weeks ago, kept an eye on it and it went down over a few days. Following the farrier visit on Wednesday (when there was a tussle doing her back feet) it is up again. No noticeable lameness. Thought I would cut out the feed in case and probably keep turning her out as it went down before when she was out. Any thought? Thanks.

If there is a suspicion that it is OCD go to the best VET expert you know of for that condition he may be very expensive and you may have to travel and wait for an appointment. In the long run he will be the cheapest as his prognosis will probably be the best. Been there done got the T shirt (or bill)

it sounds possible but as it went down with exercise I would sugest that OCD is unlikely as swelling would usually get worse with exercise where OCD is the cause.

You say she is on fibre feed - what sort? With her being a susceptible type I'd keep it as bland as possible - hi-fi lite and high fibre cubes and speedi beet as oposed to Alfa-a. perhaps cutting out the pink powder but allowing her access to a vit and min lick would be a good way to go too...

If you are worried definately get a knowledgeable vet out - one who understands these conditions... if you are within reach of the RVC I can recomend someone for you...

Thanks very much eveyone, I am very grateful for your feedback. The swelling didn't look too bad when I brought her in this evening. I just gave her a handful of Speedibeet, handful of Hifi Original and no Pink Powder; she was having some Alpha-a so I have cut that out. I am regretting feeding her now, but she was a bit poor and had rain scald which suggested she needed some vits and mins...anyway, I will call our vets on Monday as they are very good. They operated on a friend's top team chaser when he had a bone infection and saved him, he is back TC-ing again so I do trust them. Thanks again.

Sounds more like Physitis - which less alarming than OCD. But you need a Vet to diagnose and advise

Yes but Physitis can lead to OCD so you need to be careful! Whatever the case, the swelling wouldn't go down with turn out...

Anyway OP... don't beat yourself up. It's so tempting to feed poor specimins up - especially babies ( I did it with mine as the vet said she needed more weight). At least you've identified your possible error early and are doing something about it!
