Friend of ours just contacted us from over Derbs, there may be a possible outbreak there on a small sheep holding- nothing much to tell, DEFRA are there now.
It might be one of those disgusting rumours- hopefully just DEFRA being over careful which would of course be terribly good, if not it is getting scarily close to us, and has spread a fair difference.
Well I'm going out now, managed to get our wholecrop in today so I will be sheeting the pit- but if anything else comes to light I will text one of you and let you know.
I hope it just turns out to be a case of sheep eating prickly brambles when getting at the blackberries. That happened on numerous occasions last time as they were being culled on suspicion and then tested afterwards. There were alot later found to not have been infected.
Yes he did say that, I have spoken to M again and he has said that they had got DEFRA up there purely on the wafe that they had some connection with Gildford case- may be nothing.
Apparantly several places around the country have called in to have their animals checked, all to date have proved negative. Lets hope that this time, as the response has been much quicker than the last outbreak, that it has been contained.
According to BBC News 24 they think the F&M has come from a laboratory in Pirbright (near to the confirmed case I believe) and is not a strain normally found in livestock. They also think that there has been nothing go on to the farm in two months and the only livestock to come off has gone to slaughter (via an auction though they do not say)
Part of me thinks we can let out a sigh of relief, part of me thinks it is even worse
