I've gone to put my mare to bed this evening, and discovered that she has 3 oedema's on her neck (both sides), I think it's related to the Pen&strep injections that she's been having for an infection but not sure... As the Oedemas are futher up her neck, rather than at injection site, she came off her bute yesterday which I think may have been hiding the reaction.
I haven't given her her injection this evening as a precaution. But just wondering if anyone else has had anything simular as it's very worrying.
Many Thanks

Are you sure you are getting the injects into the muscle? If you are sliding the needle along and under the skin rather than into the muscle, the pen/strep will sit under the skin.

I did this when I first jabbed a horse, and it took about 4 days to totally disperse.

At the time I was very confident that I had it in, but now you've said that I'll bet that is what it is, I didn't asscociate it as the edemas are not at at injection site. But the amount of fuss she makes (hot headed everyone is going to kill me type) about injections thinking back I bet you are right. I wouldn't normally inject in the neck if I could get away with it as I've seen a horror story at a yard I worked at years ago. But she made it very VERY clear from the off that the rump was not an option! I'll ring my vet and ask if he could swop her to an oral dosage instead as she just won't stand for the needle.
Thanks for that it was very helpful
