I have been notified that a Stallion with the mares he has already covered is going to be in the next adjoining field where i have my mare.

Apparently the owner of the stallion & mares has said she will put a electric fence up stopping her stallion from trying to get to my mare.
It is the plastic posts with the electric tape the owner will be using !
Will this be enough though ??

I know my mare will be very unsettled & very distressed when the stallion appears which i do not want either.
My mare is 20 years old & i do not want her to be covered & it is worrying me.
I have my new mare coming this weekend so i will have both of my mares to worry about.

My field is my own so i'm not on livery.

What do you all think ??

Does the field next door belong to the Stallion owner? If not then maybe you could have a word with the field owner, if so then I would have a word with the stallion owner and make it clear that you don't think that the electric fence is sufficient and that if her stallion gets in with your mare she will have to pay your vet bills. I know that is not going to stop the distress to your mare, so maybe you could leave a smallish gap and put up some elctric fence of your own?

I hope you can get it sorted as it must be a big worry. and that your mare is ok. :)

Does the dividing fence belong to you or the stallion owner? If it's yours I think I would be raising it to about 6 foot if possible, and would run a strip of electric about 5 foot in from the fence to keep your mares back from the stallion. Any extra precautions the new owner is taking will be a bonus, but I think if it was me I would be trying to safeguard my own horses as much as possible myself.

I hope it will all work out ok, incidentally a friend has a young stallion who will not go near electric fencing for anyone or anything! I hope your mares settle down quickly.
