Possible strained muscle

Hi everyone, bit of a long winded post but I want to try and explain the whole situation.

Ok, so I have an 11 month Shire and he suffers with thrush on and off. At the minute, he's got it quite bad in his rear left, which is being treated. I went to get him from the field 3 days ago and he was lame on it. I didn't really think it was that bad to cause lameness. He hasn't got a split heel and his leg isn't swollen from what I can tell but I've kept him in with about an hour and a half turn out per day just to keep him away from any damp. (plus his field in on a hill and shares it with a very playful cob!)

I was speaking to a friend from the yard and she asked if he'd pulled it since the thrush doesn't really sound bad enough to be causing the lameness. At first I'd said no but then remembered that the night before a friend had been picking his feet out. My friend picked Teddy's leg up quite high which he didn't like, tried to kick out and then jumped off the floor to try and kick him with the right. The whole time my friend kept hold of his left leg.

I'm not really 100% sure what happened as I was in with my cob at the time but I wondered if there was any possibility that he'd pulled or strained a muscle in his leg or hip. And if anyone thinks that's the case, has anyone got any suggestions what the best thing would be to do for him? And whether he should be stalled or turned out?

He's fine on it in the mornings and ok when he's been turned out for a little.

Thanks x

I very much doubt he has pulled a muscle jumping about, far more likely that the thrush is painful and causing the lameness, thrush can get really deep and just like us having a sore foot will hurt a bit with every step taken even a tiny crack or splinter can be agony.

I would not keep him in to treat the thrush, in my experience unless they are in a bog moving about to stimulate the frogs is far better than being restricted to a stable with limited movement standing on bedding/ urine/ droppings for 23 hours a day, it helps the blood flow to the feet if they move and should aid healing not slow it, still treat several times a day with whatever you are using.
