I might be going hunting for the first time on 9th Feb, on a lovely pony I've been riding at uni. Pony's owner is coming with me, but I don't think she's very experienced at this hunting lark either.

Think I'll be ok horse wise, as I trust the pony, plus I handle her very easily normally, so if she goes up several gears when she gets out there, I'll still be able to control her!

Thing is, I might end up having to wear a hacking jacket (even though I'm 21) and I don't have long boots, only jodh boots and chaps which are a little bit worse for wear these days. This may well be a one off day (we're having to travel quite far as in Mendip country and not jumpers!) so I don't want to buy a load of new kit, but I'm a bit worried about looking a numpty.

The hunt we're going with isn't the most formal in the world, so do you think I'll be OK, if I tidy up what I have as much as I can? Don't want to be a disgrace.....!

I don't know which hunt you're going with and I get the impression it varies on turnout. I went for the first time a few weeks ago and was really careful to get all the correct kit etc. When I actually got to the meet it was alot more relaxed than I imagined. A real mix of hacking jackets and black jackets for all ages. Some people were just wearing coats rather than jackets and one girl even had a purple hat and purple stars on her chaps

As long as your are clean, tidy and, most importantly, safe, no one will mind. Especially as you are a newcomer, all we ask in our hunt is that you are safe tidy and willing to have fun!
