just saw several saddles fitted to horses (working ridden horses) where the saddler just tried them on and said yep thats ok, not one person was asked to even get on their horse, never mind try it in action!

is this standard procedure these days?!

We had a new saddle for our pony last year, saddle fitter insisted on seeing her led up and down in hand, turned in tight circles etc. Then wanted to see her ridden by the girl who was going to be riding her. Watched her ridden for about 15 minutes at all paces including a jump. Has been out again this month as she had a different rider, and had put on weight, and saddle was slipping a bit. Went through all above routine again before adjusting gullet of saddle (its a wintec).

How odd!! When I got my two saddles new, i was asked to ride walk trot canter and jump in the jumping saddle - and from this he could see that actually this saddle needed that doing to it because it was rocking a bit, etc. Even now when he comes out to check the saddle he still gets me to ride in it.

I had the saddler up to check my saddle...she asked if his back had been sore (I said I didn't think so), chucked the saddle on and said "its fine". I wasn't impressed!!

i took his card anyway, since as im new to the area, i dont want to forget not to book him to check MY saddle

The saddle rat my last yard was like that. She use to be on a working livery and when I asked somebody who had basic knowledge they found that if you put your fingers under athe pommel whilst riding it would cut them off!! the saddle was too short had been flocked for a bigger horse but I suppose you put your trust in these people because it is their profession & at £15 a visit it all seemed reasonable. Strange though I have another saddler coming to check my new saddle & sell me another next week...her call out fee before any work is £65 (she was recommended to me by a whole host of happy customers)....so I guess you pay for what you get?

Ours came out for a refit last week - he saw both horses ridden for at least 20 mins while making suggestions/improvements to fit. Was there for 3 hrs and changed us £50 for both of them (oh and £55 for a Matted half pad I just had to have)

Just the very bad ones, we have one like that in east sussex allthough he can now book appointments basically any time you want even tommorow because no one wants him as word has spread HAHA.

Our yard is a RS yard, every year they have to be inspected by the law, A saddle fitted in a simular way just months before the inspection failed immediatly.

My saddler was with me from just after 4pm til 8:40pm, but was a wow saddle

She was good. Checked her back, had her walked/trotted up, measured her up and then saw me ride in all the different types of saddles, but obviously Wow saddles are adjusted there and then.
