It turns out my little horse is properly broken
He has 80% loss of cartilage in the radial carpal joint and they are amazed he was still sound and storming round (and being placed!) at events at the end of last season. Damage is all 'old' as degeneration doesnt seem to be active so he has been like this for a while and something in the last week has triggered the lameness (no idea what, nothing in his routine has changed). He has never shown any sign of feeling it before Prognosis of returning to any form of useful work is poor and he certainly wont event again. He's only 10 and we still had lots left to achieve, its such a waste
Anyway, they say the joint fluid is excellent quality and want to try IRAP to see if it can help him even have a couple of years as a dressage pony. Anyone have any experience of this? Iv done lots of reading around and it does sound promising but obviously isnt a miracle cure and doesnt work for all of them.
Sorry for the rambling post, Im pretty devastated at the outcome and still trying to get my head round it all!
