Hey All!

Well, the boy had ulcers and has piled on the pounds, is bahving like an angel and I have fallen in love with him all over again!:) The specialist from Liphook said that after a month of GG he should be fine, but I could put him on something if I liked. STUPIDLY I forgot to ask what he recommended. I think I would be happier giving him something to support his poorly tummy (he is a delicate little flower, bless 'im!) but I am not sure what. I have read some good things about Coligone but wondered if anyone has any other thoughts on U-Guard and GNF? Or anything else that people might think is good for ulcered horse?

Thanks in advance! :p

I use Global Herbs Acid-X, you do have to introduce it slowly as it tastes quite strong but I've been really pleased with the results. And I like that its herbal, (being a secret tree hugger LOL)

Feedmarks Ulcer Calm is good ive been using it for a few months now, one of my horses suffers extensively will Ulcers & gastric problems.

The other one i would recommend is Gastri X from Hilton Herbs, only downside is i found it very expensive if you have a large horse. This is the reason i stopped using it.

I was using Pro Soothe for my mare after 3 months of Gastroguard.

Now she has been diagnosed as having a wheat allergy I have had to cut the Pro Soothe out and am just keeping her as normal.

So far so good, fingers crossed!

My mare was diagnosed with grade fours and I have tried just about every suppplement on the market and on prescription (on vets and experts advice) and they didn't work for her, some of them had the opposite affect. What does, is half a scoop of dengie hi-fi chaff with a teaspoon of soda bicarb 10 mins before she is worked regardless of what she is doing and she has been ulcer free for a year now. A tip picked up from an ex jockey.

I find the best thing is bi-carb of soda, this stops the acidity, and the supplements are all very good but the best thing is chaff chaff and more chaff, something like chopped alfalfa as a plain feed or alfalfa pellets soaked for about 20 mins, the chaff lines the stomach and protects it from the concentrate feeds which cause the ulcers. Hope that helps
