Foxy was spayed on Wednesday, she is doing ok, resting a lot and wandering around the lounge a bit but she seems a bit swollen around the wound. It is dry, not oozing or anything. I assume after fairly major surgery, that this is normal - can anyone reassure me??

Some pics...

My mums dog, Buffy, got a bit swollen like that, we had her done at the same time as my bitch, Star, and Star seemed to recover a lot quicker and was less sore, but Buffy was fine too within a few days.

Don't worry, I'm sure her little boobies will go down soon. She looks to be quite enjoying a bit of chill out time!

It looks 100% normal to me, and I have seen a few spaying scars! Although my old vets did keyhole surgery - 3 stitches max - it was amazing!

I always compare it to myself - when I got studded and my leg was stitched up it was swollen for quite a few days

it looks fine to me hun, as long as the little one seems to be ok in her self and unless you notice any change she should be fine x

Apart from it being a massive incision, no it looks perfectly normal.

I had 3 of my bitches spayed last month and their incisions were tiny in comparison. 2 did not swell, 1 did swell a little (although that may have something to do with my vet dropping the vein from the clamp, into her tummy on the operating table, and having to make an emergency extra incision to get in and find the loose vein which was spurting blood all over!).

Don't worry, looks fine to me.

Thanks everyone!

I thought it was probably normal, but have only ever had animals that were already neutered or dogs that were castrated! Foxy is being very sensible and comes and sits next to me when she wants a lift on to the settee!

it looks fine to me - bit of a big hole, but sometimes that's needed if things turn out a bit more difficult than anticipated.

My dog had similar when he was castrated (he had retained testicles so a big op). The lumps didnt go down and it turned out he had had a rare allergic reaction to the stitches. My boy was quite sore and the lumps were quite red so looked much worse than yours.
So keep an eye on them to make sure they do go down. I'm sure they will. We were just unlucky.

The wound looks fine to me, although would agree it is a huge incision. My Gsd was spayed and had a hernia repair last month and the wound was still only tiny. I am sure FOxy will soon be back to normal, are they dissolvable stitches?

They are dissolvable stiches - I must say, I was quite surprised at the size of the incision! She is feeling much brighter today, she is rather 'chesty' which the vet said is due to the tube, she is on antibiotics because when spayed, she also had about 10 grass seeds removed from her feet - goodness knows how she managed to get quite so many
