Post surgery, feeling too fine, would you start walking in hand at this stage?

Two small blueberry sized lumps were removed from between pony’s front legs on Monday. Pony was rearing and attempting to play with friends on the other side of the fence today (her companion is too old to join in with that kind of thing!) and ran up the fence line begging when her girl walked past with a headcollar in her hand. Wounds look good and obviously feel good.

I’m worried that without some mental stimulation she’ll go a bit nuts stuck in the field for another week before the stitches come out. I could walk her out in hand down the lane and back each day to keep her mind occupied? Surely that would be better than her leaping around in the paddock?

(Plan, given location of lumps, is to lead her out from my mare once stitches are out, back in her previous level of work but with no girth as they were near (but not under) the girth area. That will give me a happy pony and time to let it all finish healing under the skin.)

She has an older friend in with her as per vet recommendation. Said friend is apparently boring…

As you can keep an eye on the wound as you take her inhand walking, that is what I would do. I don't think I would let the children lead her though.

As it happens the vet phoned me today to tell me the lumps were nothing to worry about and there will be no further issues (phew!) so I managed to ask her. She said a walk down the road would be fine. I will pop a bridle on and do so - pony was trying to play again while I was there this afternoon. If she can rear and box she can walk down the road!

(Thankfully the kind youngsters on the other side declined to join in and escalate things so she gave up after a bit.)
