Hi, has anyone posted a saddle abroad recently, if so what do I need to know, as in pitfalls. Ive mentioned duty to the potential buyer but she says she has to pay that. Ive never done it before, its not a cheap saddle, so Im a bit concerned. The postage costs are eye watering!!
Thanks for any advice

I’ve just sold a Fairfax Gareth to the States via Ebay and used their global shopping programme which only cost me about £13 but I did have to pay 12% to eBay for the privilege. Not sure I would do it outside of eBay though.

Gosh £13, thats cheap!! I thought about listing on Ebay but the fees are so much now, I worked out Id lose well over £100 on what I paid for it about a month ago. I wish someone in the UK would buy it lol!!

Well I listed it at £1500 and had no bites at all so dropped to £1300 still nothing so put it up to £1700 and forgot about it. Sold about 2 weeks later for £1600 so for me the fees were worthwhile. But yer it’s frustrating it didn’t sell here but I ended up getting back what I paid ish.

Result :D
Theres a couple the same for sale, slightly more expensive but not £140 more. This lady says they cant get them where she lives for anywhere near what she can from the UK, so even with postage of £300, yes £300  it still works out cheaper. Its crazy!!

Possibly Australia. The saddles £850. Ive looked on DHL, Parcel2go and Parcelforce who amazingly are the cheapest.
Oh nice I have given up posting saddles as had a lot of hassle and one person said they received it broken but I had the serial number photoed and the one they tried to get their money back on didn't have one.

I wouldn't tbh, and if I did I'd take photos and videos from every conceivable angle to prove there's no damage prior to posting - too many scammers claiming stuff arrives damaged/broken and claiming money back off Paypal!

It should be fine. Saddles are imported to Australia all the time, pack it well and there will be no issues. The buyer needs to know about the duty to be paid, easiest way for you as a seller to advise value of saddle is to include a receipt with the saddle. Customs will contact the buyer to pay import tax when it lands in the country. They won’t release it without duty being paid. The buyer should also know that second hand leather saddle need to be tested by gamma radiation which also needs to be paid for, this can potentially damage the saddle but all the ones I’ve known of have been fine.

Essentially all you need to do as the seller is make sure the money arrives, pack and send. The rest is up to the buyer.

Not saddles but I send a few parcels to Australia and have booked them online.

The same as you I check the comparison sites like parcel monkey etc. Hermes have been the cheapest a few times and I've used them with no bother at all.

The website should take you through it step by step but there's a new custom form to fill in. It'll be easier as tou are only sending one item in your parcel. Once you've filled it in you need to print a couple of copies to be attached to the parcel and a spare inside.

Then you post parcel/get it collected and your part is done. Customs fees are paid by the receiver and they'll be contacted in due course.
