Hello,

I am selling my saddle but have no idea how to send it - does anyone have any recommendations of which courier company to use (I am in Aberdeen) and roughly how much I should expect to pay?

Thanks!

I use parcel force, look on their website for your local one, easy to do and ok price, under £17-18
make sure to pack it well and pad it in vulnerable areas like the pommel and cantle. I get my boxes from tescos (other super markets do big boxes too! ;0 )
I also put a label on the saddle with the address on, Just in case and duck tape the whole way around the box.

I used a large box, padded the saddle with bubble wrap, especially pommel and cantle. Fill space with something light, balloons, screwed up newspaper in bin bags etc. Put your name and address and buyers name and address on a big sheet of paper INSIDE the parcel in case of parcel damage. Put a FROM label with your house name or number and road plus postcode on a different side of the box to the TO address label. Use lots of parcel / gaffer tape too. Also I think purchasing postage insurance is a good idea.

I'd bubble wrap it & box it up securely using duct tape so it won't come open. I'd then go onto 'Collect Plus' website to find a local collection point, we have a shop in our village that does the service. I'd then book the parcel into them, pay on line, print off the address label & stick it on the box. Then drop it into the local pick up point & it will get collected & delivered in about 2 days. They deliver packages up to 10kg, with tracking, for under £10.00. The site will tell you the size of parcels they accept. You can insure you parcels as well if you wish. This service is far cheaper that Parcel Force. I've used it many times.

I've used My Hermes and Parcelforce to send saddles.

But be aware that cheapest and cheerfullest might not always be the best economy if there's any problem with delivery or whatever. I know someone who sent a saddle with My Hermes and it was totally trashed and they then refused to compensate.

If you use Parcelforce bear in mind that you might have to buy extra insurance cover if your saddle is over a certain value; well worth doing IMO.

No recommendations for courier, I'm afraid, but here are some pics of a well packaged saddle that I bought via ebay. To be picky, the box could also have been been filled with shredded paper or similar, but this gives an idea of how to pack it properly for transit.
