I have a saddle on ebay (which I'm really regretting actually, as I love it, but it hasn't fitted my last two horses and I need the cash!). Anyway it's over the reserve, but now I'm wondering how I'll post it  Just in a big box with loads of newspaper? Or any other ideas? Is it just as easy to take to the PO and use parcelforce, rather than a courier? I think I've charged enough for postage (based on what most people charge). Auction ends on Thursday so wanted to make sure I was in a position to send it off.

It's quite old so it's not so much about the value, but obviously I want it to arrive in one piece :o

The couple that I sold on there lately I sent royal mail and yes really just as simple as turning up at the post office with a very big box.

I ended up buying the large storage boxes from Big Yellow Storage as there's a depot near me and I couldn't find anything else big enough, think the box was £4-5 and the postage costs about £17. I packed them out with old newspaper and any spare bubble wrap that was lying around.

Ive sold a few saddles, i go to my local shop after theyve had a delivery, they give me a box.
Pack up, yer news paper will do.
Tape up ect. Make sure you put your address on the side as a sender .
I use parcel force 48 its the cheapest way to do it.

I posted a saddle once. I used a large box lined with bubble wrap at the bottom. I then blew up a heavy duty bin bag and some smaller plastic bags, tied knots in the ends to keep the air in then packed those around the saddle. Worked quite well and seemed to keep the saddle in place in the box.

Same as everyone else. I sold a saddle recently on ebay and just packed it in a box I got from work (someone had a large delivery). Put the saddle in a plastic back and then just padded out with bubble wrap - again saved from work after deliveries.

I sent it Royal Mail and the postman picked it up from work with the other post. Very easy.

go to a supermarket in the evening pref a 24hour one if there is one close or in the morning - the multipack crisps come in big boxes, just ask for one of them, they are usually more than happy to give them away! a major plus to working in a supermarket - free boxes!! i have sent saddles in them and received them!

Big box, I personally stick some bubble wrap around the points, then cut into the box so I can fold it round the saddle - stops any rattling round and it's more fun to watch postmen fight with a weird shaped box ;)

In desperation I have used lots of scrumpled up supermarket bags packed around a saddle in a big box.

If you are somewhere rural with small post offices, they may not take it (my local PO claims not to have the space to store big boxes until they are collected). Parcelforce will collect from your home and you can go on to their website to get a quote and book a collection. Or a big post office should take it. The last saddle I sent through the post office (2 weeks ago) cost £15, which I thought was pretty good.

dont send it Royal Mail as they will charge you a bomb. Use Interparcel.com - you can send a boxed saddle 48 hour delivery for as little as £7.

I just sold a saddle on ebay and paid for the 48 hour delivery and it was actually delivered next day! Buyer was chuffed :)

I just use a big box with lots of lightweight padding.

I must be doing something wrong  Just did a quote on their website and it was £50!!

I should probably go and check the weight as I'm just guessing just now! (ETS - 6kg ! )

I've sold a few saddles on Ebay and you'll get a suitable sized box from Staples for £3/4 and I tended to bubble wrap them. My local post office wouldn't take boxes that size so had to take to the Parcel Force office and it cost me around £20 per saddle or so

I bought a saddle on eBay last year and it still hasn't arrived.....

Still to this day would love to know how on earth they managed to loose such a huge box!!

I have bought some flaps for my wow saddle and looks like they have been lost in post :( - been about 11 days now since posting :( gutted - and that must have been a biggish package?! but looks like only sent first class so OP send it special delivery or courier who will insure in case it gets lost as first class apparantly only pay £46 compensation - I paid a hell of a lot more than that and not sure about getting money back now - and still need wow saddle flaps

I sold my old saddle, and packed using bubble wrap, and and card and paper. Didn't box, I used 'yodel' and they picked up from house and iit cost about £8.

We eBayed s saddle once, packed it in an old TV box (in the days before flatscreens, though!) and we had an old lightweight duvet we wanted rid of so it got wrapped in that.

Start a dispute on ebay. Did you pay with paypal? That normally gives you extra protection. Do not leave feedback and keep an eye on timescales so you don't go past the dispute period.

Just take to a post office and parcel force will deliery it, usually the 3-5 working day option.

I wrapped mine in a sheet and paded it out with paper plus dont use a huge box, if the saddle is nice and tight it wont move around.

It will cost about £15 to post plus wharever the packaging costs you.

I wont sold a sadddle for a friend and buyer decided to use a courier, but im sure this worked out more expensive, but then i supposed it may have been a little safer.

Althougth i have never had a problem with royal mail or parcel force.

no unfortuanelty not off ebay was off preloved, so have left myself up s**t creek without a paddle it would seem :( - so would always recommend special delivery now so you are covered

Def send it insured and tracked/signed for. I sold a saddle earlier in year via Ebay. Buyer said hadn't rec'd it (although sent to confirmed address on Paypal/Ebay, tracked and signed for with correct name) think she tried it and it didn't fit, then sent it back to me. Put your return address on box as already mentioned. Ebay won't 'see' in your favour unless you can prove delivery (tracked) if buyer says they haven't rec'd saddle.
Don't forget postage goes on weight and size of box. Think I paid around £25 with Parcelforce for my English leather saddle to be sent.
Box, bubblewrap, foamy bits are great. I once received a saddle which had been wrapped in a black bin bag. Goodness knows how it reached me without being damaged!
