Hi,
I have just sold my saddle on ebay and I need to post it by courier...Has anyone ever done this that can recommend a courier or advise the best way to package it....Should I insure it? The saddle was sold for £700

Thanks
george

We get a large cardboard box - just big enough for the saddle but not so big that it'll rattle around inside. You can either buy one or beg one off a shop (but some shops don't keep them because of the fire risk)

Wrap the saddle well in an old blanket or bubble wrap and pack it well with newspaper (or packing material if you feel like being extravagent!)

Tape up securely - put your name and address inside and out and post!

we use Royal Mail 2nd class parcel post - not Parcelforce - and it's always been very reliable - arrived within 3 days

Last saddle we posted cost about £15 to send

Parcelforce is slow and expensive IME and couriers charge a fortune.

Sensible to insure - and I think with ebay's new terms and conditions, you have to anyway don't you?

I've just sent one to Canada by Transglobal Express by airmail for £40!!! They're really good and seriouisly cheap, plus to UK couriers too.

If you're using a courier you need to parcel up your saddle (in box as described above) then measure the box's width, height and lenght. You also need to know the weight. You use this info to a) get a quote online and b) book it online. Courier than picks the parcel up from your house (at an arrange time) and deleivers it. Dead simple.

I went to my local saddlers and got a box from them (they had just had a delivery and were quite happy to give them away).
