Afternoon,

Anyone else trying to get a mare in foal this year? After last year's total failure (5/6 lots of AI, the only one that possibly took and was slipped very early was a rush job done at home after 3 months at a stud vets) This years plan is two tries of AI at home max, then I've found a stallion down the road (literally) to try natural cover.

Mare, who is actually the foal on my avatar wearing stripey wellies, was scanned today and actually has a follicle ready to go, but we've decided to leave her to cycle naturally this time and will scan again in three weeks with a view to inseminate Easter Monday week.

First stallion is a little full ID, and the one for natural cover is a palomino traditional cob who I've also got my eye on for my traditional cob mare in a few years 🙂

What's everyone else up to? 😀

My maiden mare foaled a gorgeous colt on Thursday with no assistance. I wasn't sure whether to put her back in foal this year or give her a year off but she absolutely loves being a mum so I'm going to try using AI this year. We tried one round of AI last year which wasn't successful and then naturally covered the next cycle which worked. Praying AI works this year as I don't want to travel her with the foal to be covered.

Sadly the AI didn't work, so am moving on to natural cover with a local stallion. Not ID this time but a traditional cob. Scanning again later in the week and will take her there and back hopefully one day next week to be covered.

Her mother also never took AI and she is the result of one natural cover so hoping this new plan will work.

Sadly no return of Stud fee for previous stallion but at this point I'm just throwing away money so time to try something new 🙂

Number1 Nag hope AI works for you, think it tends to be more successful on non maiden mares? Any pictures of this year's baby?

Here he is at 3 days old 🥰 sire is a buckskin, dam is bay, and he looks to be chestnut. Can't wait to see what shade he ends up

Oo he has a dorsal stripe, is he red dun? No leg bars on his back legs though so maybe not. Whatever he's a beauty 😍
He isn't dun as neither parent is dun (dam is bay, sire is buckskin). I've heard foals can be born with a dorsal known as countershading so I'm guessing it will fade or disappear completely when he sheds his foal coat 😌 he's gorgeous whatever colour he ends up
