Having not really ridden for 9 years I am taking the plunge and hoping to learn dressage and I cannot believe how nervous I am. I used to work at a racing stable and do a little work riding as a youngster but having suffered a bad accident spent nine years merely being a spectator and lunging the odd young horse etc but was not prepared to ride. Now while I am keen I still feel nervous - does anyone else feel such nerves?

I started competing at some unaffiliated dressage events earlier this year and was quite nervous to start with. I think the more you do, the more relaxed you start to feel. It is supposed to be fun, so get out there and enjoy it :)

Hell Yes.... those are the nerves that will fuel your adrenaline - make you buzz - and once you are in the saddle for 5 minutes all your old confidence will come rushing back, that's when they will have to drag you off the saddle as you'll want to keep riding. Good Luck - go to it....

Thank you. I must admit it does feel good starting something different and dressage is new to me. When doing fast work years ago it felt like I never really knew how to ride them;it was simply a case of forward seat and a good canter. I now feel like I will be learning to ride and develop a deeper seat.
