I suspected an issue when I bought this horse but wasn't too concerned as hes a pleasure hacking trail horse for me and if he turned out to be a pet am not bothered.
I've had him 2 years he's been backed a year and lightly ridden with a few breaks due to various issues both his and mine.
I don't believe him to be 100% straight / level in his hips, he always stands with his nearside hind slightly turned in this is his favoured leg to rest I find he doesn't turn as smoothly on this side and at worst just looks a little stiff to me. I have had vet check at time they were happy with him no lameness no obvious pain he rides and works fine. I've had an EBW work him up and he wasn't remotely concerned about him.
This horse is always happy runs round like a loon plays does a fantastic impersonation of a rodeo horse so on whole not too worried. Occasionally he looks quite off on it and I assume hes tweaked a muscle in there when running round being stupid, give him a week off just work him gently in hand pleanty of flexing and massaging to that area and hes back to normal.
Yesterday he must of done something epic is now very lame on this near side hind uncomfortable with weight on it leg looks turned in when walking, no lumps no heat no obvious signs of damage. bandage both hind legs for support given him half a bute and left him in today hes happy in himself tucking into his net and being his usual cheeky self.
He is due into vet practice on Thursday for an operation (minor lumpectomy) do you think its worth requesting an x-ray of his hips/pelvis to see if there's an underlying problem? as am worried hes going to have a recurring issue with is hips. or am I just being my usual overly precautious self as everyone else (prior to yesterdays incident) has always thought he was fine and cant see this so called subtle hip confirmation flaw that I see and personally thought was obvious.
If you've got to the end of this epic post well done people guiness cake and tea all round

It would be best to explain all of this to the vet and they can advise you on what direction to go in. I would be very insistent that they take this seriously as it sounds like they've dismissed it slightly before. With regards to X-ray it is very hard to xray a horse's pelvis and the vets will more than likely tell you they can't do it. Have you had a Physio look at him as well? Go with the vet first and go from there...

I will speak to the vets as he is going in to the practice this week for his op.
The vets weren't concerned about him at all when I bought him but ive always been unconvinced which is why I had an ebw look at him, but will happily try a physio as well as I don't want him to be uncomfortable. I do check him regularly and can never get him to respond to me in pain which is slightly reassuring.
He is a bit of a beggar for having a mad half hour in field charging around doing twisty bucks which I can only imagine does him no favours, the daft thing is hes such a slow steady neddy the rest of the time really laid back and easy going, he dawdles everywhere with just the occasional mad burst lol
