Hi,
I currently have a 10 month old JRT x Chuiwaha (sp?!) and for the last few weeks been on the hunt for another dog as a mate for Louis.
We decided it would be best not to get another young pup due to our garden being downstairs so harder to toilet train plus be easier with an adult dog so they can enjoy long walkies together straight away etc.
Have found a 7 month old JRT who is microchipped, innoculated but not castrated (Louis is). I spoke to lady who said the JRT is her eldery MILs pup who bought him for company for herself but cannot cope as he needs lots of exercise (as does ours!). The JRT is toilet trained but not lead trained nor well socialized however is not bad with other dogs just unsure, apparently. He is kept in his crate alot due to her elderly woman being houseproud and he moults and chews
Do you think this could work out quite well?Am hoping as he is a few months younger than Louis he will follow his lead abit? I feel sorry for a young dog kept in a cage, i rekon with regular exercise etc i could stop chewing and train on lead.
What do you think? Am hoping to go see him later and take Louis

Id say if he gets on with Louis (any aggression or dominance then it for me is a flat out no!) then i think that time nad attention will get the chewing sorted, and my dog is 18mnths old and still not perfect on the lead (not for want of trying might I add!)

It would give the pup another chance at a more fulfilling life, but you must ensure you dont compromise the lifestyle that louis has for it in my opinion.
also if you get it, castrate it!

and proof of microchip and vaccines and worming etc!
also, check about fleaing and worming as if you are taking louis to see this dog you dont want him coming home with anything!

Personally I prefer a bigger age gap when we are talking about someone already owning one young dog. (I know we kept two of Jonna's puppies, I wanted one and my mother fell in love with another, and it haven't been anywhere near as bad as everybody portrays it but Finnish Lapphunds are a very easy to own breed.)

I feel sorry for Louis too but that doesn't mean that it necessarily would be a good choice for my other dog/dogs to get him. What happens if Louis doesn't follow your first dogs lead without the other way around, e.g. that his lack of confidence and socialization rubs off on your dog?

Edited To Add, Unless you're trying to spell the name of yet another designer breed, your dog is a cross between JRT and Chihuahua? /ETA.

yes my dog (Louis) is that cross.

Anyway I got the other dog..hes a total sweetheart and is called Gizmo! They are getting along just great playing..just fed them and no issues over food, even shared their dinners!
Am very glad i went to see him as he was in a teeny cage and his owner very old :-(
Took them on a little walk with OH and they had great fun.

I'm glad you got him and hope it continues the way it started.

And I'm afraid you caught me, usual breed names, rarely a problem, personal names, I can confuse anybody with anyone and sometimes e.g. calls my nephews or niece for one of the dogs names, talks to one of the dogs while saying one of the cats names etc. The slightest lack of attention and I do what I did with confusing Louis name with the unnamed (in your first reply) possible new dog.

As said, I hope life continues onwards and upwards for Gizmo.
