Saw this ad earlier and I think she is quite a nice horse for the price, I notice she is quite high in her withers and I know she has a problem with her back legs as she doesn't like picking them up which is what the owner has told me. I plan to bring her on and sell her with the help of my mum and a few other people as i have been after a project just wondering what you all think of her? Here's the link to her ad http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/105766810/broodmare.html

Sorry if I am being thick, but........

Surely the fact that she is being sold a broodmare, means that she can't be ridden?!

I forgot to mention this, she is being sold as a broodmare as she hasn't been ridden and so the seller has advertised as a broodmare as she needs a lot of work on her riding as is very green.

Ah, that explains it!

Do you know what exactly the problem is with her back legs and picking feet up? I would be a bit suspicious of this and would certainly want a vet to check her over before purchasing.

Good luck if you go for her x

Obviously would get a vet to check her over just in case and im not sure what the problem with her back legs being picked up is but our warmblood had a similar problem and given time he grew out of it. I think i might go and see her just to see if it is out of nastiness as would not want that rubbing off on the other horses

i think it all seems very dodgy.

They say she is broken in but then told you she's not been ridden. Well has she or hasnt she??

If they have broken her in then why arent they spending a few weeks on her and then selling her for double that price.

When i read the advert the first thing that sprung to mind was 'She must be a nutter under saddle'

I might be completely wrong though.

She's trotting on the lunge in the first photo, but look how short the stride is with her hind leg. She's not tracking up at all. That coupled with the 'not great with her back legs' thing makes me think that somethings not quite right.

ETA. This one (same area and an ex broodie too) looks like she's worth ringing up about.

I have thought about this, in all honesty i have had nutters under the saddle before and have found that a lot of time normally resolves them unless they have a nasty streak. So really bucking and rearing I can deal with, the owner has been quite upfront and honest with me this far, she has been broken but has not been ridden for a while not sure how long but i think it may be worth seeing her just to judge her temperament.

If you go and see her please please ask if you can see her tacked up and lunged. Then if possible see if the owner will get on (not actually go anywhere, just mount her).

I think at her age just going by her temperament may be very risky. I know you have said you have ridden buckers and rearers but i would only ever get on that kind of horse if i seriously had to, why put yourself at risk of major injury or even death. That is a big mare and a long way to fall.

I know i am being very negative but i just have a bad feeling about her based on her advert (or lack of it)

I don't wish to sound rude, but if you have already made your mind up, why ask for advice here ?? This is the sort of post I just don't understand - firstly asking for advice having already made your own mind up, and second, why bring an advert to the attention of thousands of HHO's??

Sorry if that sounds harsh, I don't mean to be. I just don't understand  Maybe having a blueberry day.

on a completely business based notion - her age would concern me. She is 7 so maybe 8 by the time you come to sell her.
A green 8 year old may put a lot of people off so may limit your selling market. Just a thought ;)

Faracat
She does look nice and has a better conformation than the other one however, she is a bit small for me as i'm 5ft8/9 so would look a bit underhorsed i feel as she looks like a light build but thanks for the link :). I do agree with the shortness in the trot and would onviously get her checked over by a vet, but think she might be worth seeing as she is not too far away.

I haven't really made my mind up i just wanted an opinion and i do agree about the injury thing so may give her a miss if saw another horse that i liked i just wanted other peoples opinions on her as i felt a bit suspicious about her as well don't want to sound rude I just wanted other peoples opinions :)

Nooooooooooooo!

Some of the horses on DD will make you cry. :(

Make sure that you have you sensible head on when you look at it as there are some gems but there are also some heartbreaking horses.

Agreed do beware of the sob stories - but if you are careful there are some nice horses available (the quality the last few weeks has been a bit better than usual. Not that i look at it everyday or anything....:o:p)

Sounds to me like she could be a wobbler or shiverer-both have problems with picking up back legs-both incurable and not worth touching with a barge pole! Particularly given her size/breed.

As a project to buy with the intention of breaking even, let alone making a profit then I wouldn't even give the ad a second look.
- if you spend a year on her the time & cost won't be covered by her value.
- 4/6 months wrong time to sell, plus still will need someone able to bring her on. So value won't cover costs.
- sell her in mid august & she's still a green 7yr old, no matter how talented she still won't sell as easily as a youngster with potential.
- never buy a project with health issues that could cost a fortune or prevent it selling, stiff hinds at 7 would put me off.
If you don't mind coming worse off when you sell her & paying for a vetting cos of her hinds then proceed with extreme caution. I think there are a lot of better projects about though.

I agree with better projects its just she caught my eye and i would be in no hurry to sell as would keep her at home. Will have to think about it as there are others i like just wanted an opinion on her to see what people thought and wobblers did spring to mind as well. I don't have a preference to mares either would actually prefer a gelding but i just enjoy bringing horses on as i find it quite rewarding :)

Ok I am a suspicious old bat it says broodmare and also says eventer I don't like the way she isn't tracking up on the lunge. So I would say £700 is cheap you want a project horse but you could be buying trouble. So lots more info and see her worked because it doesn't matter how much a horse is its the time effort and cost of keeping them that is the hardest even to sell on.
