Our elderly dog was pts a couple of weeks ago and we would like to look for a new puppy but as we have a 1 year old Patterdale bitch we are not sure what sex to get. Ideally we would like another bitch (old dog was a bitch too) but the terrier is very opinionated and I'm worried about her being aggresive to a new pup. Terrier is not spayed yet but will be done round about Christmas time as she is in season just now. So do I need a dog or do I wait till Christmas and get a bitch or do I stop stressing and get a bitch regardless?
All help welcome!

I am no expert, but i would suggest getting a dog if you know your bitch is opinionated, a dog 'should' automatically bow down to your bitch.

Only thing i would say is that isnt waiting until christmas too long for a spay if she's in season now? ideally you'd want to get her done November at the latest so she's between seasons?

I would say dog too if she is a bit of a bossy-boots.
Have you considered and older (still a youngster?) rescue/rehome? And then, the dog will be likely to be neutered so saving you hassle!
Buying around Christmas can be a minefield because of all the seasonal sellers :( and agree, you don't need to wait that long to have her spayed.

Thanks for replies, a dog it is then! Our bitch is due her boosters next month so I'll speak to the vet about spaying, I thought they had to be left longer after a season it's a long time since we had a bitch spayed our oldie was 15 when she died, and I just remember her being done after her first season, not how much longer after. This time round I am looking for a particular breed for showing or I would have looked into a rescue :)

Book a spay for 12/16 weeks after the season starts so around October.

Some bitches will not live with another bitch so a dog is a sensible option.
What breed are you planning to get?

I'd say a dog too, especially if you're looking to get another terrier. As to speying, yes, it's mid season, about 3 months time, so October.
