We have been in touch with someone wishing to rehome their Malamute - its all being done through the breeder so totally legit and contracts will be signed so no worries there. I spoke to the breeder this morning and he is speaking to the owner this evening and hopefully he will be driving down to meet us next weekend and to introduce his girl to my boy :D

Im so excited - have wanted a friend for Korben and now that his leg is all healed we can look at giving a rescue Mal a new home - the only reason she is being rehomed is due to a marriage break up so its quite sad that hes having to part with her. But Im so excited, and I cant wait to meet her.

Another woowoo - excellent.
We've just got back from the beach with our mallies as it's their 1 year birthday this weekend.
I'll post some photo's when I've recovered!

Sounds like you're going about it the right way - well done, and photo's are a must :D

Oh please do :D How do you find having 2? Im used to the hair in everything now so not worried about that - have gone through 3 hoovers in the last 2 years from dog hair abuse lol - moving to wooden floors shortly, carpets are just taking an absolutel beating.

Well, we've always had lots of samoyeds (and still got one) and always will, so I thought I was used to the fur thing, but the two mals shed everywhere - wooden floors are a must (as they eat carpet anyway lol).

These two are our first mals, and are brother and sister. We researched the breed for years, and after finally finding a suitable breeder, settled down to wait.

Finally 2 years later, she phoned to say that the bitch that we wanted pups from was in pup!!! EeeeKkkk!

Fast forward, and we brought the demons home.

They are so different to each other - both are incredably full on, but the bitch can be moody and sneaky, and the dog is just well.....um.....a bit....dumb!

They play an awful lot, loudly and with lots of teeth - we are always listening out for that certain tone from her that means there will be trouble. Usually a quick cool down period stops anything developing.

They can be food aggressive with each other, not with us, or the samoyed, so we feed them in separate rooms. They are fed raw, following the breeders guidelines, and this works well with them (and their poo's lol)

We started their training as soon as we got them (the brief period up to 18 weeks old is your main window for training, after that you are just building on the foundations you've put into place). Obviously they didn't go for walks for a good few months, and then it was 10 mins per month of age.

I trained them in the garden, lead work, gee and haw (for harness work), stay, sit etc. Getting them to pull rattley bottles behind them, ready for the rig, obviously all in fun, lots of praise, trying not to use the word 'no', and in very short bursts.

Once older, I used a swiss ball for them to stand on with their front legs as this strengthens the hind legs and stomach muscles, and used small trotting poles to lengthen their strides and loosen the shoulders.

We ran them on a belt in prep for the rig, and finally aged about 11 months, the pulled my OH on a rig for the first time:

And now, we're just carrying on in the same vein, building on what we've done before.

Sorry, went on a bit :D . You just asked how it was having two, and you get all this lol

Having two is harder than just one, but they do keep each other occupied, and will take cues from each other (good and bad).

As your lad is already established in your home, and your bringing a girlie in, it should be okay. Expect a few fireworks, just cos mals can lol. Keep a squirty water bottle handy, or a tennis ball that you can bounce and distract them (obviously don't let them have it - they have to want it for it to work). Make sure neither of them are trapped in a corner; take them into your secure garden to sniff and bounce. Don't fuss or reassure either of them, just let them get on with it as much as possible.

And finally, remember the camera lol

Good luck with your pack, and feel free to get in touch. :D

Awww your guys are stunning :D I love hearing about other peoples dogs, so feel free to blab on as much as you like :D We have two big gardens, back and front of the house which are both secure so plenty of room for them to bounce around, and I can keep them seperated when Im out and overnight for the first wee while - I can see me sleeping on the couch for a few nights first time they are left alone together I will be so worried lol.

The breeder is waiting to get rehoming paperwork from the owner at the moment so we haev to wait for that - just need to hope they like us, and she gets on with my lad

I'm sure they will get on fine - just don't worry too much about it as they are so quick to pick up ones moods!

If you can, probably wisest to get her in the morning so that they have all day to settle.
Sounds like you have it all sorted.

How old are yours, and what's her name? Oh and who's the breeder - being nosey here :D

My boy Korben is 2.5 years - she is just over 2. Dont want to put any of her details on here in case breeder or owner sees - I have no idea who the guy is and dont want to risk annoying anyone but will PM you the breeder :)
