Potential steed, thoughts please :)

He seems sound to me if not stepping under but more coz it was a slow trot up, I just wondered if he was a bit too heavy, though I want heavish as I am no lightweight but wondered if I am setting myself up to fail with something so large. But I have always wanted a clydie x so am a bit torn. Hopefully going up over a weekend to see it with a friend.

Just kinda wanted peoples opinions as different eyes see different things :)

in fairness he is a huge horse with a big gait (I have one of these too) and the person running him is not exactly sprinting. If I would take anything from that it would be that the horse has good manners and is not trying to outrun his handler or barge past. Go see him and ask to see him loose schooled so you can see how he truly goes. I think he looked lovely too.

I, too, thought he looks nice. It's very hard to tell much from that video. To me he looked a bit heavy on his feet but that could be because the trot up was not good, but I think he looks quite handsome and, as already said, he seemed to have nice manners. You would really have to see him moving properly to make a proper assessment, so... go see him.

I would be disappointed that they could only send such a poor quality video, do they want to sell the horse:confused:.He is unbroken at 5 so not going up in value yet they cannot even trot him up properly and show him running loose so you can assess him a bit more.
He is fairly heavy , if you go up and view see how he is in canter it will tell you much more than the trot will about how athletic he is.

it is good to have that in mind, but he is also not trotting up on hard ground, or even ground - but the grassy bit in the middle and the poor person trying to run him is not running in a straight line either.
edited to say my post was in response to Coss, sorry - two more came in whilst typing :)

From the video it looks like the horse is unsound but it was a very short clip and not in ideal circumstances. looks like your also going to need legs of steel to get impulsion!

Glad it is not just me then, I just wonder if it is worth the £200 to go an see him when I am just not sure. I have videos of its feet which aren't great either. I am slowly talking myself out of it. They are also asking £3000 which I think is a bit OTT.

IBH I don't think you can tell anything from that terrible clip.
Are you sure you want a clydie cross to event ?
What level do you want to complete at ? They can be lovely horses but galloping is not want they are designed for I have one he's a lovely horse and would do intro happily but I just think he would find it hard to do more.
Mine is not crossed with TB even though they are big heavy horses.
As an unbroken 5yo he should be very cheap.

North Scotland, £100 in petrol and a stay over night.

Someone has also recommended me a horse from Tom Dunbar, *uncut* 4yo, unbacked, 16hh clydie cross? I think I may have to give up the dream of a clydie cross at this rate!

By the time you get him home add at least another £1k, it then needs breaking which will take more money and time, I think you could find something nicer for that money but probably not many Clydesdales to choose from so you may be struggling.
A nice IDx would suit you and possibly a few more around to choose from.

£3000 is mad no its not worth going to see unless he's been for sale for ages and they are prepared to be very sensible.
five yo's can be very difficult to start and he will be strong I would only be looking at less than £1000.

Thanks for the input Goldenstar, this is what I am starting to question (clydie X for eventing). I would hope to BE100 eventually and maybe further if I ahd the balls when I got there.

I think this is just me mixing my dream from when I started riding and what I actually love doing as a rider now.:o

I am all for travelling to see a horse I am interested in - or if someone is buying from me - but that is a long way to go for a horse you are not sure about. I do agree he is too much money for what he is, though I do like the look of him. I do agree with you that it would help if you could decide whether you want a horse who can take you where you want to go in the future, after all, you can always indulge your love of Clydesdales later in life :)

I think he's cute and that video is rubbish. Any well-mannered horse being trotted up by a slowly-jogging handler is going to look like a donkey. Why do you think a lot of owners at breed inspections pay runners good money to show off their horse's trot?

one place I can recommend for horses who can event and be easy to back and ride are Narramore Stud. Not near to you, they are in Devon, but their horses are homebred and I'd have one in a shot if I was looking to have another. i'm not.

I think this is the crux of it! Thanks for all the input guys, you are why I love this forum, I think a good chat with my friend/YO/trainer is in order :)

I feel like a bloomin teenager again :D
