As per title really. Ideally I'm hoping to find a saddler with a decent selection of 2nd hand saddles but failing that I'll be forced to buy a saddle myself and if it looks a decent fit, then get a saddler out to double check. After some suggestions as to what I could try, I'm thinking an Ideal would be a good place to start?

I have always used a Samber Working Working Hunter on my cobs. Excellent saddle and very comfy for horse and rider.it is identical to the Farrington working Hunter which I have also used on my cobs and a Connie....both short backed barrel types.

Thank you, I'll take a look 🙂 I'm just praying she will take a 17", I really can't afford to go down the M2M route!

Mines bigger and wider than yours I think. Hes got a KES/Kensington 16.5" XXW. It rides like a 17" though as its got a flatish seat and short panels compared to the seat. Other ones that were suggested were Ideal FWB or possibly H&C, Harry Dabbs hunter tree, Native pony super cob or similar and possibly Black Country

Fab, thanks girls. She's only 13.1 ish and I expect I'm only going to manage a 16.5" - I'd better stick this this blinkin diet to fit into it 😉

I had a farrington WH saddle on my flat backed mare, lovely saddle and very comfy unfortunately had to part with it after she changed shape.

Just seen a farrington wh for sale, 5 miles away but it's 17.5" :( should have bought a horse!

Eta. The farrington that HP linked to above is nice, does anyone know if it would be possible to alter it from a MW to a W or possibly XW?

Yes, HP's link looks like the identical saddle I had. Mine was a farrington WH on a Henley tree (told this was a flatter tree - not sure if that is correct but fitted my flat backed mare perfect) I'm not sure about whether they can be altered?

There's this one on preloved (not sure about the derby house samber prefix to the farrington but it's the same saddle with a different stud):

Wow - you're a genius! I actually live in Warrington. I wonder if I know the seller? Strange how it didn't come up when I searched. Thank you so much, I'm going to send a message on preloved and take a look at the eBay one too 🙂

They might let you try it if close by! Maybe it's meant to be. Spent many years in warrington so know it well :)

I'm very tempted to get this on trial, not sure if it's too forward cut though. Saying that, it's for everyday riding too and it does look super comfy.

Is more forward cut than mine, mine doesnt have the thigh roll, but its not massively forward cut. Its got quite a deep seat as well, which makes them feel truer to size to ride in. I paid a lot less for mine though!

I seem to have fallen in love with the AH Traditional WH....it's so pretty!! My saddle fitter said if I'm buying myself, an AH is my best option, it's more likely to fit than any other brand. I just need to determine whether to go for a 16.5" or risk the 17" :(

Following on from the Facebook conversation, how tall is the pony? My instinct is that unless you find something with an upswept panel you need to go smaller in the seat, so 16.5". Also, until you have a shot of the back of the wither, do you know what width fitting roughly?

Lol, that could have got confusing! Pony is approx 13.1, I am only 5'2" but 'plump' and worry that a 16.5" will be too small for me. Other than having a 17" seat on a smaller panel, which I can't really afford at the moment, all I can do is continue to diet and possible find a 16.5" seat that's more forgiving, would a lower cantle help or not make a difference? I'm guessing at W but I've got a couple of saddle to try on her tomorrow just to give me a more accurate idea.

I've heard that Fylde Ramsey's/Ray's tend to have a generous seat but that they're not great for everyday use.

Do you cover Warrington?

Could you give me a call, 07799 628057, I have lots of fits to book in and the route to plan :)

Yes that's great, it'll be a little later this afternoon if that's ok? Our postcode is WA5 4BY but will speak to you later re appointment time and if you can fit us in :)

I ride in my ideal Ramsey on a daily basis!
I've broken extremely difficult ponies using one and regularly go xc schooling with one!

Oh yes, sorry the Ramsey is an ideal isn't it?! Apparently Ideal use 150 different trees, I've tried looking for a H&C but there's hardly any available and they're all too big.
