My horse has been kicked in the shoulder (as in right in the middle of his shoulder), and it now has a load of red gunk on the outside of it. I have given it a really good clean this evening, and tried to get rid of the gunk on the outside, and have got rid of some of it, but ideally want to try and get rid of all of it.

Has anyone got any idea how I could get some kind of poultice onto his shoulder so the gunk can try and soak and then hopefully it will come off, and then I will really be able to see whats going on.

The vet cant come out until Tuesday, so I am trying to do something about it myself. (I suspect by Tuesday it will be to far on healed to make it worthwhile for the vet to come out.)

either hold it on yourself for as long as you can bear or use several bandages and make a sling around the body (one around wither and girth and another around chest). You could also elastoplast one on, it just wont be very nice to remove, unless you soak it off.

My mare got a really nasty kick on the point of her shoulder a few years ago. I filled the injury with Intrasite gel morning and night and it healed beautifully though during the healing there was a massive and very unsightly scab! I didn't ever get the vet to it, and she lived out through the whole healing period. There is a tiny scar there now that you can only see if you dig in the hair for it. I know another horse who was stitched for a simlar injury and who didn't heal nearly so well.
