Ditto disposable nappies, oh and duct tape, or one of those specially designed poultice kits - I got one from my farrier (it was about £25 but alot of it is washable and reusable), 'tis blooming marvellous!

How long will they last ie overnight or will they scuff them out? Do you then cover the base with gaffer tape or something?

should be fine overnight in a stable. I think what i used to do was poultice, followed by nappy - taped up round the top to reinforce - then old sock pulled over the top.

You could then stable bandage over the top of the sock to keep that up, if that makes sense - or use a bit of vetwrap.

A friend at the yard used a cotton money bag instead of the sock, which had useful drawstrings to tighten.

Nappy with black duct tape over it the heavy duty stuff.

I wrap the nappy in it then go back round the edges of the foot to reinforce the bits that may get scuffed, always works for me. Make sure its not too tight round the coronet band though.

vetwrap costs a fortune! nappies are much cheaper!!

I have a horse that loves to get them off so I do :

Poultice
Gamgee
Softban
Vet wrap
Duck tape on the bottom
plastic bag
Cover in duck tape to fetlock
Poultice boot!

Seems to work! Very expensive though - but what part of horse ownership isnt??! Good luck!

1.poultice
2. vetwrap
3. horsehage bag (with a horseshoe shaped piece of lino stuck onto the bottom with duct tape to protect the bag from the ground).
4. duct tape round the pastern to keep the bag on.
Means horsie can go out and play in the field all day, and keep foot clean.

ALternative to (3) is to do what I used to do when stabled in a yard which used wrapped haylage, as this black plastic is really great for poultices, can cut a bit or any size or shape, and tape round pastern with duct tape to keep in place.

The idea of putting the piece of lino on the bottom I got on here BTW, and have been using it all week as Flo got a slice/puncture to her sole a week ago.

Poulticing has been going swimmingly except for today, when she tried to put her foot down (mid vetrap) I held on too long and got my finger trodden on. Thank god for rubber matting thats all I can say as otherwise would not have been typing
this tonight.
