Hope you can give me some advice on the best poultice for my boy.

I haven't had to poultice for years and I used to be a fan of the old fashioned nappy and duct tape! not sure if it the done thing anymore :-)

My horse became lame a month ago and the Vet came out, couldn't find anything and prescribed Danilon. After 2 weeks, he seemed sound but after riding was sore on it. Inoticed a horizontal crack on his hoof and a split on his coronet band so thought abcess :-( . I called my farrier. The farrier came out and noticed and after cutting into his sole found a small amount of pus. He didn't react to the pinch tests and he said looks like it had cleared itself.

I left him another week. I was still convinced he wasn't 100% even though not particularly obviously lame so farrier came out at 6am this morning and still no reaction the pinch test. I ahve the vet booked for monday but the farrier suggested I poultice for a few days to see if there is anything deep rooted.

What is the best poultice?
Is is worth doing the old fashioned and cheap way?

Any advice greatly appreciated

Thanks
Ali

Cheapest way is fine. I use Pampers. Not too wet. Cheaper version if vetrap I bought in bulk from eBay. Then heavy on the duct tape (I make a rectangle of strips to cover the toe and sole with a verticle strip down the middle of the rectangle to go up the wall and across the sole to the heel).

I find they wear the toe after all day out so I use plenty of tape on the toe.

I have found a poultice boot good to use in the stable, but I still use the nappy and vetrap with this.

You can also easily get a homeopathic remedy called sill?

One tablet and it is fine to use with conventional stuff. I got some from a horsey herbs seller from eBay.

Nothing wrong with cheap!!

Have you thought about tubbing him aswell, just incase the puss wants to come out at the coronet?
