Pour on insecticide advice, please?

For my now slightly less lumpy 3yo.
I have tried changing her feeds...and so far no difference, but a sweet itch hoody seems to have made a big difference.
So now I need more advice - on pour on insecticide. Years ago, I used to use 'Switch' for another horse - is it still available?
Advice, please?

switch yes you can still get it from the vets. i use spot on now it is not lincsed for horses but is for cows i get that from the vets you just put 10ml over the withers i have never had a problem how it works is you put it on a fly bites the horse and soon as the fly bites the horse it will die so you are killing the fly population and when the fly bites the horse it will not cause them to itch the stuff is about 3 pound an you do it every 2 to 3 months!

Sorry, babybells - can you explain - if Spot on is not licensed for horses, can you still get it from your vet?
I do like the idea of slaying the fly population, though

Flys - more of the Devils work -I'm not stalking you honestly.

Killitch is now produced which contains Benzyl Benzoate. It seems very soothing, but should be at the price.

Of course anybody with a 'chunky' type will find they have to user rather more than the bottle says if they have a thick mane/tail. Thoroughbreds (with pathetic manes

) can be cheaper in some ways.

I'm not sure whether this actually kills anything (apart from lice!) but it does seem very soothing. FHC's mane area no longer looks inflamed/pinky and he's stopped rubbing. FHC is sensitive (cobs can be!!!!!) but doesn't suffer from sweetitch.

not sure if ispot on is safe for horses often wondered though. we use it on all our cows great stuff available from all farming stores ( behind the counter).

Not sure about flies but have used "spot on" on horses for lice. I was worried about the chance of a reaction but subsequently used it on 11 different horses aged 6months upwards without a problem. Any farm supplies place should have it. It is pretty useless for cows though!

In reality its no more likely to burn the skin that the naf black stuff with deet in it.

A friend of mine uses spot on on all her horses without a problem. Its really only the next step up from switch being a different derivative of permethrin.

There might be a good reason why its not licenced for horses, but its more than likely to be that the manufacturer hasn't bothered with licencing as horse owners are probably not that keen to pay £45 plus for a 250ml bottle.

it is not lincesde for horses but the vets will sell it you you just have to sign a disclamier form just in case ant=ything does go wrong i know loads of people that use it and have know mprobs just do a smallo patch test just to put your mind at rest if no problems in 24 hr put the rest on if you do have a prob wash area with cold water and a mild shampoo. the best thing is it kills those nausty flies!

I use flypor on my horse with sweetitch and my other two horses get it for flys. My horse has not rubbed for three years (severe sweetitch sufferer) with the flypor and my sensitive TB no longer suffers with fly bites.

It has got exactly the same ingrediants (sp) as switch which is licenced for horses but much cheaper and i only apply it every 6 weeks instead of every week as they recommend for switch.

Never had any probs at all with it and this is my third fly season using it. The only thing i will say is that i try to touch the horse as little as possible for 48 hours until it has soaked in.
