read something about rollukur sp? there and it got me thinking about the article i read regarding power and paint being lunged in extremelly tight side reins, does anyone know what the outcome of the investigation was ?

Dutch Olympian Coby van Baalen has come under fire from the press and welfare groups after pictures were published of her lunging Power And Paint in short side-reins at the European pony championships.
In her demonstration at the Global Dressage Forum, she said: "It was a mistake that the reins were so short and it was corrected after a short time, that is the truth."
The photographer who took the images claimed the pony was in short side reins for at least 10mins. The Dutch Federation have launched an investigation into the incident.

As far as my extremely limited understanding of the situation goes, I *think* much of the concern is that this controversial training method is filtering down the system, and if it continues to it will reach the wrong hands - those who have little understanding of its much debated principles and purposes and will end up abusing it accidentally. Is it right that trainers are encouraging 15 year olds to use this training 'aid?' (rhetorical question there!)

Sorry but think that Coby's 'explanation' is tripe.
Were we or were we all not taught that 'side reins are put on loose and then tightened???
I know when i use them on all my horses i put them on long and then adjust as the horse is worked.
What did she think she was lunging???? A falabella???? [sp]

I agree too partoow... was merely offering some information on the case from the well-respected and unbiased Horse and Hound journalists
