Quick question.... not sure if it should be in veterinary?

What qualifications do dentists need before they can use power tools?

Does the horse need to be sedated?

Thanks

Look at the BAEDT website, it should tell you. To be what is known as a 'rasper' you need no qualifications, to do burr work (that is use a power tool) you need to have some qualifications and yes a horse does need to be sedated.

Are you sure you need qualifications - I didn't think there was a legal requirement to take any exams to be a dentist, has the law changed recently?

Just read the website, No EDT can currently use Power Tools, they are trying to change the law to allow them to though - these procedures legally should only be carried out by a vet

american trained edts can use dremels and power tools but it is the vets responsibiity to sedate the horse, watch the procedure and check the horse is coming round from the sedation.
on a normal edt visit the duty of care lies with the edt, if however the horse is sedated by a vat the duty of care then lies with them
