What does everyone else do layout wise for a tackroom please? I use one of my stables as a tack room so its a decent size - about 19ft x 20ft. I have feed bins along half of one wall, with 2 hanging gutter rug racks along another half. then tall shelving racks and box boxes for keeping rugs etc. in. But things are annoying me which i need to deal with like all my saddle racks are one on top of the other (so hairs from numnahs sprinkle down onto the saddle below - not great with a grey/white horse and a black horse and suede saddles!) so I think they need spaced out properly. All my bridles are on nails, again I think they should be beside their saddle. Headcollars are all piled on the same hook - again think I could do something better! What does everyone else do please? Looking for ideas to have a good move about!

Iv got a separate shelf for saddle cloths, one of those 4 tiered shelving unit, a different colour saddle cloth per shelf, that way no hairs dropping on the saddles.

Saddle covers & remove/brush saddle cloths after each use?

I do this without fail after every ride - really helps to stop hair spreading, which is especially noticeable when you have a grey!

It is hard to advise without knowing your routine... For me I like to have things I use most regularly most accessible so it might be worth writing down what you actually do in there over a typical week (both in winter and in summer if different) - assuming here this is for your sole use? - and also writing what you'd like to do but don't. E.g. do you have a convenient well-lit place to clean your tack in there or is that something you do on the kitchen table/outside?

I was always taught to remove saddle cloths after every use, even if not washing, to air them and the saddle and, TBH, I think that is nicer (and has the side benefit of allowing only the right coloured hair onto each saddle even if you pop them on top!)

If there aren't that many people around (so saddles unlikely to get knocked off) I believe those saddle racks that are like a single pole are supposed to be best for the saddles and you might be able to find a nice long pipe or similar to pop a few on in a row?

I've just reorganised and arranged my very small tackroom but photobucket is no longer my friend and it wouldnt apply to you anyway with such a big room. I have my whips, bridles, headcollars on the left wall with feed bins underneath. In the back wall I have two saddle racks side by side, underneath towards the floor i have a shelf for 3 65ltr RUBS and underneath three more RUBS for coolers, ect. On the right wall I have my shelves. One just above floor level (as per back wall) for my boots and underneath buckets. Then three more shelves staggered upwards towards the door, top shelf being for medical supplies, stuff i dont use much, shelf under that for hats and day to day stuff and under that a shelf for supplements.

I have two horses and my rugs etc go in the stable next door but tack room is day to day (and some) stuff and im so pleased with how its turned out, it works so well. Think about your day to day routine and what you need, ideally where it needs to be and make a plan from there :)

Look on ikea and pintrest for storage solutions, its great fun using stuff designed for one thing to work well for another. We dismantled an ikea shelving unit and had no use for the 'ends' so they went on the inside of the door and now ive loads of stuff hanging off them using hooks (jackets ect) so a great uncycle.
