Can't believe I am actually booked onto our local pre-season hunt on Saturday.

This has been number one on my bucket list since a small child and now as I approach middle age, it's do it now or never.

I now have the perfect horse for it, am going with a friendly meet and just need some brave pants.

However, if anyone can give me any tips, it would be much appreciated.

Give the horse plenty of work the day before long slow work works best if poss do a three hour walking exercise .
The horse needs to be clean and tidy but no plaiting needed .
Arrive in plenty of time to be on board and settled before the start .
If you go on your own try to team up with someone when you get there .
Have fun and let us know how it goes .

Thank you for the tip re exercise the day before. I am working but will take him out for an early evening ride. What is best to do the day after?

I am going with a friend, it is also her first time, we plan to stay together at the back of the field and have my green ribbon all ready.

Am nervous but really excited.

Be happy, be polite and if you don't understand, ask ( quietly !! ). I am sure there will be lots of riders only too ready to help.
On the day after your horse if he is new to hunting, may still be 'hunting in his head' or just tired, so I would let him have some let down time in the field so he can relax. You will know if he needs quiet exercise on Monday or not.
You may need a relaxing time too !!
Hope you have a great day.
