if anybody uses predisolone , were do you get it from if getting a prescription from your vet , online phramacy or do you get it from your vet , mt horse may have to have these 250mg 10 a day , and also cost , thaks very much, also horses that are on them have they had any side effects ? x

I paid £5 to get prescription from vet then took it 2 pharmacy. Phone round ure local pharmacys & ask what there price would b -I didn't look online as wanted 2 start ASAP
Re side effects laminitis is prob the most talked about I didn't hav any probs with it but was very careful with managing horse & this was over the summer.
Wot I did find was horse became very bloated & almost manic about food- if she didn't have any hay etc was box walking calling & flinging herself at stable door (NONE of this was normal 4 her she was perfect in stable) & when u gave her a net she literally attacked it- was horrible 2 watch & for that

Grr fone!
4 that reason I'd b wary of using them again.
Horse also got long-acting steroid injection & showed none of the above with it- it also didn't work but thats another story!!

Getting fat & having munchies may b 'normal' but terrifying 2 watch when ure horse trys 2 take stable door down when some1 walks by with hay (said horse finished own net 2 mins b4 & I had only gone 2 fill another)
Can't explain that 2 the horse & part of the reason I'd b reluctant 2 use them again

Mines on them I get prescription from bet and order online.

Mine does hallucinate on them! Over a certain dosage she becomes unrideable and almost unhandleable for this reason I try to only give her them in an emergency and not day to day. I don't find she is particularly funny about good on them.

No experience of then in horses, but in dogs and cats they can get very hungry and very thirsty! Can also get 'fat pads' - abnormal distribution of fat.
Worst case scenario is Iatrogenic Cushings, which in horses I guess would lead to laminitis.

I would monitor very carefully, and talk to your vet about getting your horse on the lowest dose possible. What is it for btw?

Preds are very cheap on the human meds market, but a lot more expensive for dogs and cats, and more so for horses, as vets have to stick to the cascade - basically they can't give you a cheap generic drug, they have to give you one specifically tested for that species - so vet meds companies have to do the tests, which hikes the price up :(
