My mare is due to return from stud in the next week or so what is everyone’s preferred method of pregnancy diagnosis I’m in no rush to find out as she will not be going back till next year if not in foal as will be to late to try again. Have not decide what to do yet so advice would be appreciated.

Have her scanned at around the 21 days mark. This way they can tell if its a single pregnancy or twins. If its twins there is a good chance of doing something about it.

scanning the only way for me as you need to find out if she is pregnant and if it is a single pregnancy. if you dont know if she is pregnant how can you give her the correct diet for her needs

Thanks for the posts so far perhaps I did not make my self clear I am planning to have it diagnosed I just meant opinions on scans vs blood test and at which points, eg 11-16 days to confirm pregnancy then 21-30 days to check for twining etc?

Blood tests give a fairly large number of false positives and false negatives... and since scanning is the only way to check for twinning, then there's no much point in going for anything other than scanning. 14 & 28 days. Sorted.

No, no, no!! Scanning for twins should be done 14-16 days after ovulation (last cover.) The vesicle implants in the uterus at 17 days - at that time it is much less likely that you can pinch one out while leaving the other - particularly if they have implanted very close together.

she should have been scanned at the stud so that she could be have been covered again if she wasn't in-foal but it's getting a bit late in the year now unless you don't mind having a very late foal. And/or to check for twins - see JanetGeorge's post . .

No scanning at stud. Its a very small place, he will have only covered 10-12 mares this year. Think i will probably get her scanned at 14-16 days.
