My mare who is 9 months into her pregnancy has a tooth abscess and have been advised to have it taken out but I'm worried about the unborn foal. Has anybody else faced this problem. The vet said that theirs a risk to the foal if i don't have the tooth removed but do I put her through this or risk losing the foal if I do not have the tooth removed. Help.

If your vet is confident removing it then I would go for it. Which tooth is it? How old is your mare. My horse was in awful pain with his tooth root infections. His was that bad he was sadly PTS! Mines a long story, recurrent problems, treatment not working and an operation not an option due to past history and previous GA for tooth removal. Im certainly not trying to be doom and gloom as its routine and straightforward for most but teeth problems can often result in sinus problems, bone infection etc etc. Im sorry I have no experience of a pregnant mare. Fingers crossed alls well for you both.
